Permit me to add my tuppenceworth as a newbie to this site, but with 30 years shooting experience:

IMO, scopes fall into probably 3 categories, mostly related to the quality of optics:

Best = expensive: Swarovski, S&B, Zeis, Docter

Then a large gap to Leupold, Meopta, etc. (Nightforce is the exception, jap optics, quite good, very expensive, but not as good as the German/Austrian stuff)

Then you drop down to Bushnell, Hawke, and all the other jap or Chinese optic also rans.

Dont be fooled by claims from cheaper manufacturers that theirs is just as good as German optics - simply isnt true.

In my opinion, the best price v quality is Docter. I've used Docter, Swaro's, Zeiss & S&B, and to be honest, there isnt a lot between them. My latest purchase is the 3x12-56 Iluminated Docter, and for the price of around 850 quid, its quite simply a stunning scope, especially in low light.

Have a look at this low-light scope test:

Hello:

Leupold are the best value for money around in my opinion.

The 'Best' Europeans Schmidt, Doctor etc are also very good (You choose).

But you get what you pay for, cheap scopes are 'cheap scopes' In my opinion a 'good' scope

cannot cost less than £750, yes I know that's a lot but sadly it's the truth!

If you cannot pay that much then stick with a 'fancy' airgun scope from China/Far East, they are

a 'near miss' and will do the job.

The Leupold VX3 range take some beating, I have three 30mm tube VX3's and an old LPS (Very good but cost over

£1,000, but is still the 'best' 10 years later!).

If you can go to America on holiday, and buy the Leupold you need there at $ instead of £.

agree but you mist out kahles scope out at the top end range. and the bushnell elite range are as good as the leupolds of the same price easy
