Box squabbles

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Has anyone come across this prob before

We introduced 2 kitts to our team this year and on introducing them on neutral ground ie the patio most the oldies were fine with em

2 of the really old jills cursed them a bit but soon got used to them the 2 kitts now 6 months old live happily in the court with all the others

They sleep eat and work together fine UNTILL you put them in the ferret box then all hell brakes out the 2 youngsters we have to keep in a seperate double box because if you try and put them in one of bigger boxes with any of the others the youngsters start to squabble with the older ones ?

We cant get our head round why this is happening and why its the younguns causing the squabbles yet take them out the box and put them in a rabbit burrie with any of the others and they all work fine together when they get home they eat fine together and even cuddle up and go to sleep together ?

So WHY the problem with the ferret box the 2 younguns will only be boxed together or they start squabbling with any of the others

Its compleatly mad and we cant get our head round why any ideas greatly appreciated please

Its a common occurance, and seems to happen more with the jills being the cause of it. They do all eventually after a long while get used to each other.(Usually).

I have known jills that have bred that year kick off something rotten with the kits at a certain age, i suppose its just nature, the mother seeing the young ones off saying she's had enough and its time for them to fend for themselves. Usually by xmas this settles down though.

In the hutch they can give each other a bit of space but in a carrying box they cant and that will be what sets them off ,i would think they would settle down if you left them in the box for a period of time ??
