Big litter advice

Earlier this year my greyhound bitch had 12 pups, i left the bitch to it, keep their nails nice and short too. I left food down for the bitch all day long, she coped fine, they started on solids at 3 weeks which was very soggy mashed up jameswellbeloved puppy and gradually decreased soggyness over the weeks, they also got every food scraps, veg, meat etc. 5 times a day until 5 week old, 4 times a day til they go. :)

I also use drontal worming TABLETS as the liquid was spat out too easily, they are perfectly safe to use from 2 weeks of age. They had 1/2 a tab each at 2 weeks old and a whole one at 7-8 weeks old before they left me. :) Good luck with them. Wait til their all running around causing havoc. :11:

Bear in mind guys that the gut of young animals isn't fully functional at 2 weeks so whilst they may want to eat solids, you need to be aware that they probably won't take the full nutritional content from the food.

Breast is best for pups as well as human babies lol so keep your bitch well fed as a priority :)

Ta for all the useful gen. I'm beginning to feel like I'm stoking an engine. I've been letting her have food all the time and apart from an injured teat, she's OK. Looks skinny obviously but OK. She's been lying in the sea to try and cool down. There's a lot to learn  I get the feeling that life will get worse before they go and can see the potential for crap heaps the size of the Preseli's already.

Had a litter of A/B's, 11 of the fecker's, had them on lamb's milk about 16 to 18 day's to help the bitch out she was still feeding them regular also so i was giving her it too, about a week later i had them on minced chicken (more like a paste). By the time they were 5-6 week's old they were about the size of staffy's, friggin nightmare the little shite's :11: Everyone has different way's but i think the bitch need's a little help with big litter's.

All the best.

I am really grateful for all the help so far. The dirty dozen are feeding really well on mince and cereal mix and lamb-lac to supplement bitch's milk. Have put some photo's on but their bloody hard to get a photo of. Really glad I found this site as vet's advice a bit flaky. Cheers ! :clapper:
