borntoshoot 1
hi all, i was shooting with my mate on my permish yesterday and admittedly i crossed the footpath with the gun but i didnt shoot on it. i was about 20 yards from the road when i fired but no1 was on the road and i fired in the OPPOSITE direction to the footpath, i was about 10 yards away from the footpath and shooting over a fence onto another field in which i also have permission, when i went to collect what i had shot (pheasant eating the owners chicken feed) a man came over from his house and started havibng a go at my mate saying that i was too close to the road and breaking the law by having an uncovered gun on the footpath, even though we were clearly about 10 yards from the footpath, he also said i wasnt allowed to shoot there because of the road and footpaths in the field also that its illegal to shoot pheasants out of season:blink: i explained as politely as i could that i had permission, wasnt on the footpath and that nobody was endangered or disrupted while on the road or footpath and that i am 15 and my mate is 16 so we are legal to be on the land alone. he then said, in these exact words, "i have been shooting for more years than you been f***ing born you little s**t and if i see you again i will get my gun and take shoot at you and then call the old bill and see what they have to say" also he wanted to see my permission aggrement, FECK I DIDNT HAVE IT ON ME so i ran home leaving my mate there "so he new we werent gunna bugger off and not come back" and i got my permission letters and waved them under his nose and he said he still didnt believe that we were legal.:realmad: by now he had sworn at me, threatened me, tried to take my gun and pheasant off me. and by now i was really getting pissed off so i just said "CALL THE POLICE NEXT TIME COZ I ENT DONE ANYTHING WRONG MATE" and walked off. sorry its soo long but i wanted to include every detail so you can tell me where i stand on this, no way am i going to stop shooting there because of him so if the police get involved have they got a chance of doing me for anything? i ask because very soon i am applying for my shotgun certificate and going to college to learn to be a keeper so need shtgun cert and FAC in future job. thanks for taking the time and trouble for reading and i trust i will get some sound advise. cheers borntoshoot edited to say this was with my mates airrifle. Sexy_Shot 5
Your well and truely in the right there mate, a situation like this has happened to me before, but i had my perm card on me and showed him, he attempted to take my gun and quarry, so i told him politely where to shuv it, when i got home i rang BASC (who i am insured with) and they told me aslong as its in the opposite way of the footpath, and i have permission, i am legaly and lawfully in the right, no need to worry, get in touch with basc if you need too, http://www.basc.org....ing/airgunning/ Edited November 12, 2009 by Sexy_Shot
borntoshoot 1
what is the distinction between being on the footpath and not on the footpath though, thats the thing that worries me. also he has complained because he claims he saw me shoot over the top of his house bollocks did i, that is dangerous and i would have no need to shoot 100 yards+ down a field, accross a road and into another field. hes being a complete tw@t, he has a rotweiler (or whatever there called) that he cannot control and it bit my nans dog about 6 years ago but my nan didnt want to do anything coz hes a fooking mental A*sehole
fensaluki 35
You should be fine mate ....I think I'm right in saying that you only have to be 25ft away from a public BYWAY when shooting directly away from it with a shotgun. As long as you step of the public FOOTPATH on to your permision you should be fine with an air rifle wich I assume you were using as you said you are going to apply for your shotgun license. If he's that clever and experianced when it comes to shooting he would have known that the pheasant shooting season is nearly half way through so god knows were he has his out of season bit from and the only person that can legaly demand that you hand over your gun is an officer of the law and the only if your breaking a law He sounds like a muppet to me mate and although I totaly agree with craigyboy if he tackles you again just ignore him and carry on with what your doing because you can bet your life he'll not need much of an excusse to ring the gavers and make big of any back chat or threats......Dont give the silly old git the satisfaction mate Happy hunting boys ATB

AL BUNDY 45
if it happens again you or your mate should record his rantings on your phone the threats that hes going to shoot you etc.

Sexy_Shot 5
hmmm, you should be legaly able to cross a footpath with a gun, aslong as it is not breached, (bullet in the gun) ill check up on it, and report back Cheers Trevor

borntoshoot 1
"admittedly i crossed the footpath with the gun but i didnt shoot on it." You broke the law by doing that. the gun was in the slip and were you supervised in a public place (footpath)by somebody aged 21 or over? because i was on my permission, and the landowner has signed a piece of paper sayig that i have sole permission to shoot on that land, therefore i am allowed on footpaths and bridleways. same as a game shoot, if the gamekeeper/owner has sporting rights then they can legally shoot over the footpath.
