dogs-n-natives 1,182
Rabbit does work well for me, and I change baits when they loose freshness. But i'll use owt thats available like fish and other game and vermin carcasses, chopped up. An easy one that I learned from a stalker in the highlands, was that fishy sandwich spread, he used to leave it in his car for a few days with the lid part open, it really started to reek.. ive used it many times since to very good effect. A smearing on the top and bottom of the trigger plate. A small jar is around 50p and will bait around 10 traps. Hope this helps mate, the less of those buggers about the better! Quote Link to post
Swampy 147
I saw my first mink last night. Well, I am erring towards mink rather than otter as i think I saw white flashing around the back of the neck. Anyway what's the legal stance on trapping mink? I know you can't put dog onto them, fortunately mine couldn't keep up with it. but is it a staight forward case of trap and kill? Also what do the traps look like? I fancy having a go at the critter as its a cool fishing spot for chubb and barble! not to mention nice trim for some rabbit skin moccasins i'm making for the missus Thanks in advance Swampy minkning Quote Link to post
polecat93 4
this is what a trap looks like http://www.trapman.co.uk/af160large-smallfile.jpg i think the mink goes in or other small animals and the food is at the back and they stand on the trigger plate and the door that is on the roof of the trap closes and the mink or animal is stuck , i think my mate told me the way to kill is put the mink in a sack or something put our foot on the mink and with a plank of wood wack it on the head and thats mento be the humane way but i wouldnt know how to get the mink into the sack , i think it is legal aswell to trap them aslong as you have permission.
