The real working Sloughis are not very similar to Salukis. Very different.

They need wide open land with lots of space to run, miles upon miles... just bred for a different climate and land.

but that is very much the same as a saluki's needs isnt it??

Youre right mate, the sloughi is just a saluki with no feathering and a thinner coat, they are virtually the same apart from that, so i think they would have there uses as a cross to a greyhound for the purpose of coursing just like has been done to good effect with the saluki, maybe there aint many sloughi xs about because the saluki is more readily available i dint know, but i have heard of a couple somewhere.

Alot of what ye are saying is "i think..."

or ye are qouting what you read on wiki and other site, copying and pasting etc..

Believe me the real sloughis, not show bred, dont look very much like the photos ye have posted here, and they are not like the finely bred salukis we have here.

Unfortunately I dont have permission to post any photos of my friends hounds sorry.

If ye are so inclined get yeselves over to North Africa and find out for yourselves. Its a different land, different quarry, different dogs.

The Sloughi is a different breed to the Saluki, the Sloughi originates from North Africa and is always smooth, the Saluki of course from the east. If you know both breeds well they do not look alike.

My old Sloughi was bred in the UK, he didnt work but had tremendous stamina and a very high prey drive. They are highly sensitive dogs though, so dont respond to raised voices or harsh treatment. Mine was exceedingly biddable, a really fantastic dog.

Some Algerian Sloughis here http://www.sloughi-world.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=237&sid=d457a16ca35c239307262f903fc993ea

All look like smooth salukis to me the odd one maybe has a bigger head than most but that could be down to crossing with other types of dogs who knows. If they look the same run the same and catch the same they are the same.
