whin 463 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Share Posted November 9, 2009 reading and looking at all the extreme workers on here what do youse expect of a good working ferreting dog no matter what cross you have but preferably lurcher type ,i no what i expect not that it always works but mark a hole gaurd the nets , catch a bolting rabbit ,fetch back to me and get ready for the next bolter , mark were the rabbit is as in some cases there near enough at hole and dogs finds them quicker and respect the ferret at all times and not fech of when bored Quote Link to post
j davies 8 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Share Posted November 9, 2009 reading and looking at all the extreme workers on here what do youse expect of a good working ferreting dog no matter what cross you have but preferably lurcher type ,i no what i expect not that it always works but mark a hole gaurd the nets , catch a bolting rabbit ,fetch back to me and get ready for the next bolter , mark were the rabbit is as in some cases there near enough at hole and dogs finds them quicker and respect the ferret at all times and not fech of when bored i got a 4 year old cocker dog at the age of 15 weeks started taking him with me just for the fun within a year he had the making of a good dog , when he got to the age of 2 wow he changed he will hunt rabbits and he will not leave one blade of grass unturned he marks the holes even to the one it went in i put the nets on holes he sits there the ferret is put in she bolts them if she comes out and he noes there is any more in there he want leave the hole got to see it to belive it. go to the holes and say mark if he goes there and leave there is nothing in there the hours he saves me the year old one i got is coming on well to she picks the ferret up and fetch it to me when it comes out so might have a good team Quote Link to post

festa 206 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Share Posted November 9, 2009 i expect a ferreting dog tae bush what ever rabbits there is above ground (if any), then mark the holes wait, watch an respect both ferrets an nets, an too hold netted rabbits or retreive bolters an a lot of the time i expect my dog to do this on the other side of the hedge/fence/ditch only thing my bitch dont do all the time guarenteed is mark as good as id like all of the above i hope mine pups only 12 weeks but love to cuddle up to a furry bunny atb gary Quote Link to post

A ferreting dog ; should not chase stock . Should not b*gger-about Should come back. There's all this other sh*t like hand signals ,retrieving ,marking, not damaging netted rabbits and the like but it don't mean didly if the basic obedience is'nt there .
