Rainmaker 7
Alright lads? Just a little update on the pup I kept back out of my bitch Gypsy's litter this year. He (Bruno) is five months old now and already hunting up and marking well. He took his first rats last week and had three or four more today, albeit only small ones this time. He steams into them and has developed a knack of grabbing them by the head and just a quick 'crunch' before spitting them and out and looking for more. A few of us had headed out with the terriers this afternoon to an old chicken farm and had a good four or so hours at them. Not large numbers (I think we got 12 all in) because two of the three dogs we took were pups, but it was good craic... Especially winding up Pennymeadow's son in law who is new to the game, and spent most of his time a strange shade of greenish-grey with his collar pulled up and a nervy expression on his face. I don't think telling him about how the rats jump across the silo crossbeams in front of your face, or run up your legs and bite you (before creeping up and pinching him on the back of his knee) helped though Bruno tried to retrieve a big buck killed by my mate's terrier at one point... A 5 month old puppy faithfully retrieving you a rat almost as big as he is, over about 20 yards through cover was quite the site. He was well chuffed with himself even if we weren't so keen on his present I think Pennymeadow's gonna put some pics up at some point, but in the meantime here's Bruno. Hopefully he'll be graduating to bigger and better things next season, once he's old enough to protect game birds. Cheers Quote Link to post
