Had my ferrets about a month now, they get handled at least twice a day and have stopped biting but are still intent on getting away from me as soon as they get picked up. Is the handling a persistance thing or will they always be rather frisky. Also they tip over their food bowl every day and won't touch their food once it's mixed in with shavings, any idea how to stop that, a special bowl or something? Cheers, Aaron.

You can get a holder that connects on the the mesh on the door and the bowl sits in to it not sure were you can get it though try ebay

just get one of them heavier ceramic bowls put it in a corner and nail some batten around it the same height as the dish this worked for me

if theres dried food on the floor, dont put another bowl of food in, they will eat it when hungary

get one of those bricks that has a triangular trough on one side, and use that, they can't knock it over if they try

I never use a bowl for dry, I just chuck it in a clean corner at the opposite end to the scat heap, as for the trying to get away, thats good, means they have a bit of drive, best time to get them out to work

Iv gone from the small steel bowls to big plastic ones nearly big enough fr them to fit in lol and there fine don't tip at all

I use ceramic "spaniel" bowls, wider base so they can't get tipped over.

i wouldn t worry too much mate they ll ate more or less anything when hungry but at least u give a fu*ck best of luck with them peeser

i use the heavy pet bowl, same one i use for the cat.i also have a corner dish that you fix on the cage got it of ebay. i thought ferrets wiggle all the time anyway lol so i dont bother that they seem to try and get back on the floor as soon as i pick them up .

Just sit with your hand round there neck and there front paws threw your index and middle finger let there body dangle and they dshould settle and stop riggling

I get the same problem with them trying to get away when you pick them up but it only happens when they haven't been fed. After iv fed them they don't mind

Are they still quite young? My ferrets have calmed down a lot since they got a bit older they used to always be trying to get away. They now seem to enjoy being handled.

They are only 5months.

I will invest in a big heavy bowl I think.
