spiritofold 0
My lurcher bitch cut her leg whilst out in the field. I can only guess she must have hit a bit of flint whilst she was bombing round after stuff. Its a clean cut, about three quarters of an inch long, halfway between hers paw and first leg joint. I washed the wound in salt water, dried it off and put some wound powder on it, covered the wound with a sterile dressing pad and held it in place with vet wrap. In your opinions, whats the best procedure for dealing with cuts on legs, what stuff do you use??? Is there a better way??? Im in half a mind to take the dressing off later and let the air get to the cut, the wrap it back up when i walk her on the lead. I'd be gratefull for any advice Andy

Bootsha 1,306
Doin a pretty good job as it is mate !! Salty water is as good as you'll get for a smallish cut, but as its in "lickable" range, might be an idea to remove dressing and bathe in salty water a few times a day, the bitch will keep it clean by licking it, natures way. Just keep an eye on it. A vet once told me that his rule of thumb was, up to an inch - no stitch, over - stitch. Sound advice I think. Regards B

It went through all the layers of skin, maybe a little more than an eighth of an inch deep. It bled quite well and never bothered her when it happened. She's a bit ginger about putting weight on it so i guess it hurts....

I've never tried superglue on cuts before. I've seen that it does heat up alot when used for gluing other materials. Might be worth looking into though....

I seen a guy at work,he cut his hand with a stanley blade and put super glue on it it sealed up instantly. no blood or messing about. It just came off with the scab,i wouldnt think its too healthy but it got me intersted. Cant do a dog much harm.
