steamingutpiles 117
Nice come back Steaming,Unless your a lentil eating treehugging anti hippy veggie, then I think its a bit hypocritical to criticise another hunter,I think if you had made it clear in the beggining of your thread the methods you personaly use the criticism would of been less.To be a hunter IMHO the legalitys are irelevant it is more a question of moral and personal conscience. Is it a legal obligation to use the rubber guards on leg hold traps in Australia? What other quarry do you trap? Do you personaly use other methods? How many Foxes can you expect to catch in a 24hour period? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There are several other traps and restraint devices used by hunters/trappers in Australia. Contrary to popular belief steel jawed traps are quite legal in many areas. I personally use laminated offset customised steel jawed traps on predatory species such as foxes, wild dogs and feral cats. I have found that they cause very little damage and stress on the target animals. Many of our trap lines are set through remote and mountainous terrain on which there could be as many a 200 traps. We supply live specimens to government reserach facilities in an unharmed condition using propertly constructed leghold systems. Kill traps such as conibears and snares are also extensively used by professionals. I'm a big fan of snares and snaring and have enjoyed a good deal of sucess with the various snaring techniques. I learn't to trap as a boy- trapping rabbits and foxes up in the hills around my home. I have since travelled all over the world learning from other pro hunters and trappers. I spent a considerable amount of time in the US and Canada trapping - mainly predators. I'll continue to post photos - if anyone is interested in viewing them, but I'll be more selective on the subject matter so as not to offend the sensitivities of some of my fellow members. As for the anti's - who cares what they do or think. They will always be there - there is nothing in these photos that will support there cause. Quote Link to post
Guest whippet
Nice brush on that second fox Quote Link to post
Smudge 0
Don't really see what the fuss is about. Snares are buy far worse than any fothold trap. Would you rather have a piece of wire round ye neck strangling ye or a soft rubber foot trap. Smudge Quote Link to post

snareman 3
Having recently moved to a country where that kind of trapping is legal (and a common practice) i can see both points of view. I have run trap lines VERY simular to these (leg holds) I have also released animals from some traps for various reasons, and they have had a bit of a scrape, but they are not damaged. You have to realise the MASSIVE impact the Red fox has had on Australia...it has desamated many species of animals.. Its very easy to say "Thats wrong, this is right!" and so on. In China they eat dogs all the time. In the Phillapines (Spelling?) they eat Balout which is Duck foetus, in Malaysia they eat Monkeys...so what?..who are we to tell people what they can or cant do in there OWN country?...Im sure many of these places look upon western cultures with disgust...I mean, c'mom..who the f**k thinks Kebabs are exseptable!..lol. If its legal, in the country your in...and if you so choose, then do it. I wonder how many thousands of animals are gassed or poisoned in the UK?...i bet the number has increased since the ***...Obviously, the twat-ish Goverment there think its better to gas, than let decent hunting folk go about there life style!...at least an animal in a leg hold is held, and then shot in the head...a form of death i would much rather die of than getting Cymaged or summat!...each to there own. Kye... there is nothing wrong with the pictures the foot hold trap is legal all over north america and my friend who is a pro trapper in northern canada uses them to catch coyote and wolf along with snares and they ship them to australia to use for the foxes that causes a lot of damage to the small mamals and they also have a problem with feral cats so keep using them and get hundreds more to run a long line and get plenty pictures posted good luck mate G.W Snareman Scotland Quote Link to post

Kye... Well said kye When are folk going to realise that all types of killing has some aspects of cruelty involved in it.If the person who is using the trap, snare, terrier, lurcher or what ever, is ok with there personal methods then thats fine by me. Nature in itself is unbelievably cruel, the world is cruel and people are cruel.I try my best to keep the suffering to minimum while using traps and snares but there is a certain amount of cruelty involved. The statement at the offset of this thread by Tomo that "we are all glad of the *** of leg hold traps etc" is quite ignorent.Do people on this site think a ferret scratching a rabbits arse (not cruel). Are they so ignorent that they think taking hares and rabbits with a lurcher isnt cruel. ALL the hunters on this site really should take a close look at there chosen sports and realise that its all f*****g cruel, its just a matter of choice as to which type of sport(cruelty) you decide to participate in...LIFE IS f*****g CRUEL......... Mitch 0
I understand the veiws of the Steel Jaw foot holds, they are nasty stuff. But these new improved padded jaw footholds are good traps and very effective Quote Link to post
Guest ruraltrapper
I have trapped myself in the States and these traps cannot be compared with what we use to use. They are state of art and the jaws only hold the animal with little pressure and do not break the skin. We should welcome posts from around the world and as long as the traps are legal in that particular country - Excellent. Quote Link to post
rifleshooter 0
well i think we get enough stick off those that dont understand our way's so we shouldnt condem other's and the sport they do Quote Link to post
