Leylandii hedge cuttings

Cutting my hedge last wednesday, had my lurcher pup out with me in the garden as usuall, everytime I am out. Noticed Thursday night she hadn't eaten all her food, but alright in herself, hadn't seen her sick or anything.

 

Friday hadn't eaten her food, Saturday morning I was going to take her down to the vets just to have a look at her, got up at 7.30 Sat morning to take her, she's lying on her bed of shredded paper full her length , dead.

 

I was / am absolutely gutted, had waited a long time for this breeding, and was very lucky to have had the chance of her.

Kids devastated as you'd expect.

Pup was fully innoculated etc, it happened so fast that she had only lost a little weight, I noticed how shiny her coat still was as I carried her to the hole I had dug for her, was it something that she may have mouthed or swallowed while I worked in the garden ?, Perhaps in hindsight I should have taken her for a autopsy, but I didn't think of it at the time. Are these cuttings poisonous ?, anyone else have any similar experiences ?, not that it'll bring her back.

sorry to here about your pup mate bet you well gutted. i got a garden full of them

myself.and got a 6 mth old whippet shes out there all the time,i have cut them my self and the dog as dragged them every where and they havent affected her to date. i know if they get on my skin, i come

out in a redish rash and it burns like a hell.

Thanks for your reply TT, I really dont know what it could have been, just trying to explore all avenues really. I suppose what I should have done is have an autopsy carried out on her, but I was that gutted I just wanted to get the job done and put the turf back over.

You'd never think a kennel could look so empty. A very good friend of mine that had the litter brother of my pup offered me his as he knew how gutted I was, how generous is that, but until I find out, or at least try and find out what caused it I had to refuse his very kind offer.

Have disinfected all my kenlles with formula H , again a stab in the dark but you have to start somewhere, although all my kennels are cleaned daily, disinfected weekly,pressure cleaned and painted annually, just cant seem to find the weak link that caused it.

i got these trees in my garden mate,all my dogs play amongst them and chew em to pieces and have done for years without any problems so dont think these are the cause of your loss im afraid atvb rob

i had a pattedale pup yrs ago and he was a cracker,but he must have thought he was a cow

he was a t--t for picking on grass and that was where the trouble began. he went from a perfectly

healthy pup to deaths door in a couple of days. i had to come home from work and rush him down the vets.he had picked something up off the grass and it add poisoned him. vet give him jab in neck

next day different dog. but when he had is first piss it was same colour as flouresant jacket.

i put it down to cats comeing in the garden, as he hadnt been outside
