As said above i use remington sportsman hight speed steel in No.2 & have gamebore mammoth No.1-3. 8bore whats wrong with a 3" for coastal work??. I use it as most 3.5" chambers auto's will only cycle 23/4" cartridges & up due to chamber size & a 3" will do 21/2" carts no probs most of the time. I know some who load & they have dropped back to a 3" homeloaded cartridge as they find it a better/faster/harder hitting combo at the geese.
Guest 8 Bore
Nothing wrong with a 3" I have a 3.5" and it handles 65 mm (2.5") Gamebore on the pigeons all day. Can't see you going wrong with Sportsman or Mammoth. Then of course there is the 3" Hevi, 40 gm if you can find them? There are also Bornaghi which are good. What part of Scotland are you from? As long as your confident and happy with them?
Redleg22 2
2¾" Hevi-shot will outperform 3½" steel every time. At about £14 a box they are expensive but how many are you going to fire on the shore in a season? 5s for ducks and 3s for geese will kill cleanly at up to 45-50 yards provided you can shoot on target at that distance. Hi not been on for a while & if you refer to me im near montrose. I have tryed to get my hands on some hevi-shot & tungston but can not get it but have a mate up north who might get me some. I am also thinking of reloading my non-toxic shot now with the hevi-shot or tungston & if i do reload will try steel too.
