border lad 1,047
does anyone know a quick and easy way to make billtong I used to enjoy a nice bit of Kudu biltong, very nice with a couple of frosty Castle beers, ((( I think first you have to be in a nice dry climate, to be successful, with it, even up in Canada, they call it jerky, in good dry weather, they make it from the buffalo
Guest RN-Rabbit-Control
You can make jerky in a fan assisted oven with the temperature turned right down. Edited November 12, 2009 by RN-Rabbit-Control
ratattack 111
Basic but it must work http://www.makeyourownbiltong.com/shop/biltong-factory.html be prepared for a few bad batches before you get it right, my mate from zimbabwe still gets it wrong sometimes Quickest way is to just buy it but thats real expensive
Johnny85 50
thanks for the help lads, have you any ideas for the spice mix that I can get easily in the supermarket
tarvae 0
Best place to get spices is a Chinese supermarket or Asia store. You'll probably need quite an amount and bags of spices are a Lot cheaper there than in a supermarket. Try here for a few recipes Biltong recipes on recipezaar But basically black pepper, coriander, rocksalt, chillies etc are a good start. I'm off to bed but will try to dig out a few more links for you tomorrow.
