James Doyle 59
i dont know the breed of my first lurcher which i still have... i got Fly about two years ago now he was around a year old when i got him and he came from a housing estate in a local town he was very poor when he first came and was underweight and had worms and fleas and what not. i started off by giving him a good worm dose and then start off feeding him well and when he got a bit of weight up i start bringing him out walking. he got reasonbly fit from this so we decided to bring him lamping. My friend mick and i went to a local spot to get him started Mick had his very good bitch molly a whippet x collie to show fly the ropes after givin molly a run or two we let off fly who was eagerly chasing rabbits around. after a few of these un succsesful runs for him we decided to give him a run on his own that run i will never forget as he caught his first rabbit for me Quote Link to post
flint67 2
my first dog was born the day rhyme and reason won the grand national in 1988 , she was a 23inch brindle smoothcoat , bred on the camp and i walked her and walked her and walked her !! We were inseperable when she was from 5 to 7 months i ran her on rabbits and behind another dog on deer . . Too young really , but so was i !! Her first single handed deer was a roe pricket , her second was a sika pricket. She was never much of a hare dog , missed more than she caught for sure , and i soon got out of the rabbiting game too many days laid up with dew claws, she was a daylight deer dog , not the best by any means ,coz when she missed her recall was ,well lets just say i would be banging my head on a tree !
