top terrierman 90
have done it a few times when i had no other choice when the grey box failed.but to do it in windy wet weather would not be easy.i wouldnt feel 100 per cent safe puting a dog into an earth without a locator but if his in their and something goes wrong with the box then i have no choice but to try.and the few times that it has i have found him with a bit of luck. madgerboy 11
When i started digging i bought a knocking box.My mentor took it of me and said if you can t get the dog out without it you ve no business owning a terrier.2 year later i got it back, still today last option is switch the box on.Without a box you don t put a dog in a deep burrow. johnny boy68 11,726
used to dig all the time without a locator, fine in shallow earths.in big earths it was always trenching time...always used bayers though so that made it easier, bet its tricky with a silent dog :search: Quote Link to post
