Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
Not five mins after a mate had rang me regarding our annual run of Snapper as there biting very well at the moment, In fact i am around 2 hours from going out on them. I'll let you know how it go's. This is what they look like ... Anyway as i was saying... My mate informed after a second ph call about a show on the ABC. He said there's Ferrets...then hung up...lol So i flicked over the foxtel and watched a show ive never seen called The Wild Gourmets. Brief heading description of this show :-) Heading up to the moors, Yorkshire, where three quarters of the world's heather can be found, Guy and Tommi go in search of red grouse, quintessentially English and much prized birds. So i im getting pretty excited watching a quickset long net get set up & a bunch of ferrets going down. Few bunny's later there off to make a proper bunny hotpot with all the natural trimmings from a garden they had dug up after the bunny session. Next there was a session on an Estate helping with the controlled burning of heather to ensure good regrowth for the ensuing Grouse season regarding breeding etc. Later they were to be treated to a shoot and bagged a good bunch with the shotgun coupled with a fine pair of smart working dogs. One a spaniel, the other a labrador. These Grouse were also treated in the same traditional manner & eaten soon after capture. For a first time viewing of this show i found it to be fantastic. Excellent scenery too. The rabbiting shots were so good with fog breath quiet speak amongst the crew, and misty dropped backgrounds of perhaps 200mtr clear views before it all becomes shrouded. So pretty. Cheers, Shaun Quote Link to post

Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
There's a pretty good chance what you ate is the same species i am raving about, lol However there is some conjecture as 'red' snapper is often a fish known as Sweetlip Emperor. A tasty fish, in fact probably way above our Snapper. But to confuse you again, they do have Pink Snapper in W.A. Pink Snapper are the same species i have shown in pics & although good eating when fresh. They aren't the best to freeze unless baking them whole when thawed. NOW Chips..... It's a sad fact of life here now that the old days of the local chippo peeling and slicing then pre cooking his own potatoes purchased from a bulk supplier are way gone. Its all frozen shite now & in a busy shop etc there cooked way too quickly.... time time time.....etc ...money money...its a shame.... The best shops still here & there in melb it seems are the ones owned by Greeks who have them 20 years plus.... There is a very small selection that still do the house style prep of potato's. Worth the wait on a Friday night.... Harry Ramsdens even had a crack here years ago.... was a fad like using tiger nut flavoured boiles in the margins for Carp in Summer etc etc...for a while... Then it hit the dirt like a net smacked bunny... But i cook good chips so Nerr Cheers, Shaun Quote Link to post
