And maybe only slip the young dog on easy rabbits like squatters or leave him see the rabbit running for 2 or 3 seconds before you slip him. I started mine at 8 months old so mine was a bit older id say hold him back a while just watching until hes a bit older . Quote Link to post

BEARINATOR 2,871
Different ages for different dogs, In my opinion 6 months is still a bit too young. Have you had it out watching experienced dogs on Quote Link to post
merle24 61
i have a 6 month old lurcher when would the best age to take him out lamping be iv had him out a couple of times over the last week or two and when i slip him he only runs half way thanks luke Leave him a few months yet mate, i give them a few easy ones at 7-8 months old and see how they go with them, every dog is different. But when you do make sure you pick some easy ones for him away from cover, as far out as possible, to give the dog a good chance of a kill, but even more importantly let the dog see the rabbit as the old saying goes, dont slip on squatters untill they move or move off, you will know when hes seen them, he will pull a bit ears prick, mayeven do a backflip on the lead lol, even if you have to knock the rabbit out of the seat with your foot do it. i hope this helps,,p,s if your dog starts to yap, knock the lamp straight off straight away, the odd little yap or cry is ok for a young dog as its just keen but, if it turns to a proper loud continuation of yaps on the chase knock off the lamp. too many runs and no kills will make a yapper and a dishearterned dog, you need to get him kills. Steve McHardy 2
thats a bit to early to be running your pup mate i would take him out to watch an experienced dog running but i would slip him untill the pups about 8 or 9 months old but other people run them at seven months atb great white i like to start mine quite late at nearly a year i like them to develop as much as poss before starting work but thats just me letting them see an older dog go a couple of time helps but ive seen it start a keen pup to whine with excitment (alot) watching the older dogs. but yeah give the young dog every possible chance to get a catch its first runs nice easy ones if they exist.
