ferretville 69
A friend of mine rang me on wednesday asking if i could help him out with some ferreting along with another mate. Well hard one that mmmmm bloody right i will lol. Arrived at the permission about a hours drive from our place 8 am . Me mate popped in to see the farmer and returned with a quad and trailer . I liked this farm you get free transport lol . We allways do the sets directly behind the farmers house well you got to ain`t ya, farmer don`t like seeing the little buggers running down into his wifes little garden. Out with the quick set straight around it and 2 jills in and bang the action started 7 rabbits out in less than 5 minutes oh i do like it when they bolt like that . Moved on to a 20 to 30 holer out in the middle of the field and dropped the quick set around one side guessing that the rabbit would come out and run with the wind behind them. We dropped 4 ferrets in and it did`nt take them long to find buggsy and a double bolt came with the rabbits tailing it in the wind and heading bang into the nets just as we`d antisapated . Then a 3 bolted straight into the longnet then a number 4 then it was dig time . Got a mark of 4 ft straight down rabbit in stop end quickly dispatched and with the ferrets all rising it was time to move on. Back near the farm house in a ajacent field for a nice little 10 holer we just purse netted this one Ferrets in and lets see what was at home Surprisingly it was slow with only 2 rabbits eventually leaving there santuary sitting deep they were 10ft down but the ferts eventually got them out Moved to a little 5 holer and just ran the quick set in front of it and put a fert in Just the 1 in here but job done onto the next set a tree on a bit embankment not to far away so everting into the quad and were off mobile rabbiters luv it. Dropped the quick set around the tree and had five nice cuppa before putting the stinka`s in In they went and after about 5 minutes number 1 was in the net then a 2nd quickly followed by a 3rd then a 4th and finally a 5th ferrets did`nt come back up till they`d been all the way through well they would`nt want to leave 1 in there on its own lol. Did a couple of little sets in the open baggin 1 here and 1 there. Stopped at 12.15 quick bite to eat and cuppa before doing a few sets down near the river in the open. Alot of the holes were i the open with a few along the rivers edge so we surmised that when the rabbits bolted they would hit the open ground rather than put there gogles on and swim for it :nea: . S o dropped the quick set full 100 yards of it and put all the ferrets in . These sets were actually quite shallow with the ferrets running them quick in out onthe move they were then it was all of them on . Suddenly rabbits were starting to bolt and hitting the open straight into the longnets do like seeing them wallop into them. Thing we took 7 or 8 from here before moving down river to do the last stretch of the day and gues what it was dig time again Three digs or so each resulting in rabbits and the ferts had worked well today . Heres my hob on rabbit we had dug too it was dead but the bugger was`nt letting go Finished with 32 clean strong rabbits and all in all a fine friday cheers FV . Quote Link to post
