jonher 0
Chokes alter the pattern of the shot when it leaves the barrel, for example a tighter choke keeps the shot closer together and has a longer effective killing range. FULL choke being the tightest and cylinder (CYL) being the most open / widest. Here is a link to a diagram which may clear up things for you: http://www.hunter-ed.com/images/pdfs/ammo_pattern_spread.pdf Shooting steel and lead through the same choke will produce a different pattern. Steel holds a tighter pattern than lead when fired so basically the chokes are telling you the effect that the steel will have compared to lead. ***Make sure you don't shoot steel through the FULL LEAD ONLY choke as this can blow out the end of you barrell!!!!! Hope this helps! SportingShooter 0
Chokes cause about as much arguement between shooters than almost any other subject In reality, they are there so the appropriate number of pellets can be placed in a target at a chosen distance. We just have to choose which choke best suits our shooting style, shot size and the distance and type of quarry that we are shooting Quote Link to post
zipdog 0
if you look on the end of the chokes you will see little groves 1 groves - full tighest patter 2grove- 3/4 3 groves- 1/2 normal pigeon shooting chokes 4 groves - 1/4 normal pigeon , pheasent shooting chokes improved cylinder, says on it biggest pattern, pheasents for sporting clay i would use 1/2 and 1/4 for trap shoting dtl etc i would use 3/4 and full Edited October 30, 2009 by zipdog Quote Link to post
