lurcher lass 9
myself and a good friend went lamping with my lurcher bitch Jazz and his dog whilst running the beam accross a feild she managed to put her foot into a rut left by the tractor, she done a decent yelp, she was carried to the car so we could have a better look, the leg was very clearly broken, the whole leg was swinging and it looked like she had two knees, i'm able to skin and dispatch a variety of wildlife and i certainly do not have a sensitive tummy but this made me feel ill to be honest,, we took my bitch to an emergancy vet had her strapped and pain killers given so we could drive to my local vet for the bitch to stay the night and be x rayed the following morning, we then had to drive the dog to a vet in newmarket, which i must say was absolutly stunning and its the only vets i've been to that took an interest in explaining everthing in full to the owner and they rang me at least once a day to inform on progress of Jazz, i honestly cannot thank them enough Jazz has had a plate fitted to one side of the bone and a pin in the other, and very strict to be kept still for the first four weeks, then start to build muscle up, she is restricted to being in a crate and is doing well now i'm no longer stressed the bill so far is over two and a half thousand pounds! thank f**k i had her insured!!! just thought i'd put this up as a reminder regarding pet insurence and how worth while it really is!! and how many of you have had a working dog break a leg and still continue work after a few months recovery as i said on the night she's my companion first then a worker thanks for taking the time to read Annemarie xx Quote Link to post

whin 463
well had a few bad ones and truthully if i had more of the same line i keep it would had been less costly and less hassle to put them to doggy heaven as they say but i keps them on and they worked again one as fgoos as it did one never as good but threeqaurter of the dog she was which was preety good , but they produced me daughters to keep the line over the years dogs have cost me 2 grand in total cash but made me lalot more anne maria so part and parcel of the dog game , hope he recovers and gets back to normal Quote Link to post
lurcher lass 9
thanks kayleigh and everyone for the wishes of fast recovery loftie she has a collor (lampshade) but she gets more stressed about that then the leg! - i know makes no sense but being my dog i wouldn't expect anything else! so while i'm home its taken off but when i go to bed or out its popped back on, she isn't showing the leg much interest in all fairness, just feeling a bit sorry for herself.... one for col 0
Hi Annemarie just joined the hunting life forum this is my first post on this or any other forum. Saw your pictures which looked a lot like my greyhound Izzy after she ran into a strand of wire (not barbed). She snappped a ligament and cut through her bicep muscle. Eurgh. Your dog will run again(after a fashion) but possibly not as confidently at night. She's recently had pups because I wanted a dog that could go out at night without hurting its feet all the time. Bred her to a friends small german shepherd (24") great feet, tenacious type. got some lovely pups, just need to wait a year for them to be ready for work. Still Izzy can still catch myxy'd rabbits. Best of luck with Jazz Quote Link to post
