ok so ive made a quick set basket looks ok even if i do say myself. Bought 200yrds sheet netting off brian brinded at weston park now i have to get 100yrds of it onto the top and bottom line to make a 50yrd long net . I did get one tip at the game fair that is not to undo the nett off the string its on now but to use it to pull the other string through but how will i know when ive got 100yrds of net on ? I dont fancy counting the mesh ie 18 to 1yrd x 100

For a 50 yd net you only have to count 900 meshes. That will then leave you with another 900 meshes that you do not have to count.

 

As you are making a pre set net you will have to count the meshes to put the poles on the net. If you put a piece of twine every 90 meshes when counting the meshes to find half the net you will only have to mark the head lines and foot line every 5 yards then as you assemble the net

 

900 x 4" = 100yds of stretched net

Divided by 2 = 50yds of net with 100% bagging.

 

There is no other way of doing it, it will take half an hour at the most.

thanks tiercel . I still am unsure over mesh size i did post on here on this asking about mesh size because i use a 2inc spacer for tying purse nets i keep thinking 2inc which would be 18 to a yard but as youve pointed out the mesh is 4 inc not 2inc . Good job i never counted up to 900 then phoned brinded to say youre 200yrd net is only 100

If you have a 200yd sheet it will be 1800 meshes long.

 

When you are knitting a purse net each row is half a mesh a lot of people get confused by rows and meshes. A 2" board will give you a 4" mesh.

There was a post on here somewhere ( with pics) but i cant find it where ther poster set up his longnet in a hall by laying the lines out full length with the net on, then placing the poles at the distances needed by the side of the net, from the first pole stretch the net back to the third pole then bring it back to just inside the second pole there you have double netting between first and second poles, carry this on with rest of the net. Clear as mud? Just reset my 100yrd net this way and found i only had just over 70 yards of double bagging so be careful when buying nets and check they have double bagging. (Cant remember where i got mine now).
