They're just as good off road as can be expected of any 4wd pick up but remember on that age of truck you will probably have manual hubs so be prepared to get out of the truck before every gateway. Try to avoid the non-turbo engine as you will need to send it a post card to warn it if you plan to do any overtaking. The back end as with any pick up will be very hard and can be a bit lively on corners and roundabouts (have seen a few people who were obviously new to pick ups end up going in to the hedge backwards). The toyotas are extremely reliable vehicles but parts are very expensive if they do go wrong. They will rot quite readily if they haven't been looked after or have spent a long time near the sea. As for fuel consumption they are fairly heavy (23-25 to the gallon) less if you put decent tyres on. They are fantastic all round trucks but i believe they were left behind for a while by mitsubishi, nissan and ford at that sort of age that you are after (now they're all pretty similar). For the money you will pay for that year toyota, you will get a newer and better example of a mitsubishi, ford or nissan. I've owned all except the nissan and can honestly say that my favourite is the Ford, as it's cheaper to buy, better on fuel, more comfortable and nicer to drive. However, the Fords are slightly less reliable but parts are cheaper. (I'm on my second) Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Good ground clearence, well built and will take loads of hammer. Tough engines and transmission. Great off road and good road manners too, bearing in mind they will carry a ton. But obviously slow down a bit round the bends in wet weather if you have knobbly tyres on. The 2.4 turbo diesel will do about 30 to 33 miles per gallon driven reasonably. Cheers I think 30-33 to the gallon is a bit ambitious, in my experience you will get nowhere near that unless you drive it like a geriatric sunday driver with arthritis in the right foot and you put around 60 psi in the tyres. Also, i can't speak for everything from them but in my experience milner is absoloute shite! Cheap chinese bearings and leafsprings that lasted for all of 10000 miles being just some of their achievements for me. I for one will never use them again. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
