jonher 0
Hi all, I'm new to reloading and I'm having some trouble getting my head round a few things, so any help advice would be greatly appreciated. For the record I'm shooting a Tikka T3 Varmint SS in 6.5x55, I would like to make a hunting load using the following: Lapua Mega 156 grain VV N160 I have looked in the VV manual for a load, but they dont have one for N160 and the Mega. Can I use the data shown in the VV manual for the 155 grain Sierra HPBT, or is this a no-no due to the Mega having a flat base? Also the OAL, the Sierra HPBT is 79mm and the Lapua is 73mm shown in the VV manual, is there a low-max guide for OAL??? I'm soooooooooo confused right now!!! Going to the range tomorrow straight after work, so any advice tonight would be a big help? Thanks Jonathan Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
My advice for a new reloader is to Stick to the manuals until you have some time under your belt. The manual is for YOUR safety ! Why not buy N165 then you can use that for 139 grn hpbt norma up to and including the 156 mega ? Quote Link to post

Thanks Jonathan Not too much help to you as although I use N160 in my 6.5 I dont use the great lumps you use. Have a look at this page - all that I could find for the Mega http://www.reloadersnest.com/detail.asp?Ca...amp;LoadID=8987 Whilst you are about it there are other loads for the 6.5 that may make you change direction - sometimes certain powders and bullet weights are simply NOT compatible with each other. Because you happen to have a load of a certain powder and/or heads can lead to the start of major heartache trying to marry them up. According to my book the CAOL for the Sierra (142 gr ?) HPBT is 78.75mm and these figures quoted in the books are regarded as the max. When seating them shorter (deeper into the case), you are usually governed by the amount of air space above the powder in the case. Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
I would like to make a hunting load using the following:Lapua Mega 156 grain VV N160 Jonathan Hi Jonathan, I have run some data in Quick load for you and this is what has come up : COAL = 3.15" Bullet = .264, 155, Lapua MEGA E471 6010 (can not find a 156 grain). Powder = Vihtavuori N160 Case & Powder not specified!!!! Start weight of 40 grains would produce 2240 fps and be deer legal. Max load would be 45 grains 2507 fps. PLEASE NOTE : This is based on a mathematical model, check with the guys on here that shoot a 6.5x55 and be 100% sure before using any of the above. John John Thank you sooo much, I'm deffo gonna buy quickoad! Is there any chance you can check the following for me? OAL - 76mm / 3 iches The primers were CCI 200LR Cases were Lapua Regards Jonathan Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
OAL - 76mm / 3 ichesThe primers were CCI 200LR Cases were Lapua Regards Jonathan Produces +9 fps. The barrel length on the model was 24" BTW. To be more accurate it would need the case capacity in water etc but I think you'll find the results to be more or less bang on, just be careful as I have never reloaded for the 6.5. HUnter_zero 58
Where can I get Quickload from in the UK and how much? To be honest Quick load isn't a beginners program (with all due respect!) if you want my advice, stick with a good reloading manual for a while and then move on to Quick load at a later data. The manual for Quick load is 2" thick Have a look here : http://www.6mmbr.com/Quickload.html and to be honest I just did a Goggle search and it seems there are a good few site s that you can acquire this program from.
