Can anybody answer this???

Recommended Posts

This is how bored my lovely mrs is, she just asked my why ready salted crisps are called "ready salted" instead of just salted. Her reasoning... "They don't call them ready salted and vinegar or ready prawn cocktail"

I couldn't answer this question (pretty much couldn't be arsed really) so if anyone can please feel free to answer it. Right I'm off out shooting :bye:

 Taken from Wikipedia:

Initially, chips went unseasoned until a twist of salt was placed inside the bag, to be added when required. This idea was originated by the Smiths Potato Crisps Company Ltd formed in 1920. Frank Smith originally packaged them in greaseproof paper bags which were then sold around London.

I'm guessing that some other company added the salt to the crisps before bagging and coined the phrase 'Ready salted.'
