Rip off charges

Recommended Posts

On friday we noticed one of the young jills had her eye shut us thinking she had proberly scratched it

whilst play fighting with the others we had a look in her eye and there was nothing visible in there

so late yesterday afternoon my daughter took her to the vets cos although her eye was starting to open again

we still wasnt happy with it

On my daughters return she told me the vet had put a single green drop of jollop in the jills so it highlighted the scratch

Mmmm he said yes its a scratch and give my daughter a £48 bill

On reading the bill he charged us £10 for the drops £25 consultation fee and then the cheeky ba**ard charged us

another £13 examination fee ???

On phoning the vet asking what this £13 was all about i was told it was because the vet put the 1st drop in the jills eye ????

WHAT A ****ING RIP OFF dont get me wrong its not the £13 its the prinsable of it we pay hundreds of pounds in vet bills

for the dog and 11 ferrets without any hesitation but i do hate being tucked up i would have given the £13 to a ferret rescue centre

without any hessitation but this is just greed

has any one else been ripped off by a greedy vets ?

Yes i agree with you charging a consultation & for the treatments one thing but examination fee thats a joke , what was the consultation fee for then, i would pop back & ask to speak to the practice manager

A few years back now i enquired to the local vet on how much it would cost

to have 4 Jill Ferrets speyed...

After the intial  To there response of 'we charge the same as a cat'...

at the time that was $200 AUD....

I asked again and said surely you can do better than that given there is a quantity.

Nup... was the reply....

So that never eventuated..

Things have changed for the better here however, as you can now

have a ferret desexed for around $66 AUD at one particular

Animal shelter / Lost Dogs Home...

The average price here now for most vets is around the $100 AUD mark.

At least it is now a lot more in line with the animal re costing...

Some vets here are quite good with ferrets and charge nicely

without the added extra's / hidden costs.

Cheers,

Shaun

by me there are quite a few vets some good some bad , name and shame them and let them know you are doing it ,dont put up with a rip off talk to other vets ask them how much they would charge for the same treatment. A gang of us did it with a game dealer who was giving a shit price for pigeons we phoned him asked how much and then said no i can get more down the road if enough phone they will get the message( even if you cant get more down the road bluff) .I know you cant do it so much when you are talking health of your ferret but as i said bluff when there is nothing wrong

i had the same problem with my dog last year, small scratch to its eye. put the same green stuff in and gave us 2 tablets to give to him and that was £120. that was 20 for the green stuff 40 conlsultation 30 for puttin the drops in and 30 for 2 tablets. they are robbing bast*%$s but know people care for animals and will pay it.

I just enqired about a 'bulk' purchase of microchips for my 4 beloved stinkers, I know it is not a necessity, but I have been trying to work out how I could prove a lost ferret was mine by it's features??? all much alike to the untrained eye.

Anyway just an enquiry to the vet's for 4 chips in one session visit, I was hoping to hear £15 max each for the bulk job (this was going to be hard enough to swallow) but they rang back with £19 each!!! :o WHAT !!!

Is this excessive or is there a chip registration fee included that pumps the price up? It's only a transponder for God's sake. Bloody vet's take the micky a bit too much and they play on owners emotions a bit too much for my liking.

I know the Wessex Fert Club does a members chipping day for £3.50 each, worth a little drive me thinks!

Nothing against vet's, they do a great job when it matters, but 'licence to print money' sounds familiar

Perhaps you have prices in your area?

A lot of vets have you by the short and curlies when it comes to their fees! Ferrets are classed as exotics with some vets so i think they pluck any price out the air and write it down on a bill for you. :rtfm:

It's also the mark up that vets put on the drugs that is effin shocking. :diablo:

I once had a vet that tried to charge me for a follow up appointment for a jill that i had spayed. I nipped that one in the bud pretty quickly.

Yep! I remember taking a pair to the local vet for distemper jabs, & they had the bloody cheek to charge £56 for the jabs, even though the distemper vaccine in the UK isn't licensed for ferrets................she was supposed to be the 'ferret specialist' of the practice, but still managed to get a bite from each of them due to the gash way she treated them. Paid the bill, but told her in no uncertain terms that I was disgusted with her attitude and the cost.
