peefa 0
How old would you consider retiring a lurcher?? Ours is six - seven years old now we had her about 3 years ago. The thing is she is a pet as well sleeps on the bottom of bed and spends all day on sofa, my wife loves her to bits and dog goes everywhere with her. Now the problem i have is started taking her out on the lamp again this year and today she is all stiff and sore wife says thats it she aint going out no more to work. We had a few discusions on this throughout the summer so its not a surprise. I would have loved to have bred her the year after we had her but wife put a stop to that as well!!! Must add tho she is a fantastic wife just panics like hell when it comes to the dog. Quote Link to post

wild rover 548
Did you prepare the dog first by getting it fit, lurchers that work regular can work into old age, my current 8 year old lamped until he was six ( i retired from lamping or he would still lamp) he still ferrets and mooches, one before that worked until 10, then retired after small stroke. Understand your predicament, retired same bitch four years running and kept bringing her out of retirement to train pups with her,she loved going out and would go in a bad mood if left behind.
