Sounds like your pup is coming on well for you mate.

She sounds an interesting Cross, do you have any pics of her that you could put up.

Dave.

she doing ok so far ( touch wood  ) i will try take some pictures of her on saturday when we out beating, thats if i get chance, beaters aint the best on my patch plus its all new drives so am normally running around like a headless chicken trying to organise every one and everything, theres quite a few springer x labs about, but not so many cocker labs about, the sire was the cocker and he is very tall for a cocker, so my pup has just enought height there i think,

It Sounds like you've got a top beating dog there.

Both spaniels and labs are good at flushing and retrieving, but I have seen very few which are very good at both!

If i'ts mainly beating you're doing, then stick to that.

if your dog gets the feel for a bird in its mouth, it could be more likley to chase and peg birds.

I have known many a good beating dog ruined this way, almost as many as good picking up dogs ruined by beating!!

Stick to what you're both good at and become a master of your trade.

i take back what ever i have said so far, what a day lol,

it was our local shoot today so had her out early in the morning to blow of some steam before beating, well wouldnt listen to me SHOUTING !, so just put my head down and walked as fast as i could and let her get on with being a mad dog, eventually she started to look at me as if to say whats next, quick blast on whislte and she was to heal, so started walking home, anyways,

started the 1st couple of drives, kept her on lead as usal, got towards the guns and she went mad, whining like hell to be of the lead, i pulled her up everytime when she did but she just carried on regardless, :wallbash: , decided to walk of so she had nothing to whine about, next drive she pulled and jerked forward evrytime a bird was up, so made her to heal and tryed to steady her, wasnt having any of it, bit later on i was fetching a few fields for some partridge with a few more beaters, she had calmed down abit now so let her have abit of a run, she worked the hedge very well staying close at all times listened to whistle very wel, put a good few birds up which didnt faize her abit, just about to put her on lead when she went running across the field at 1st i thought she had seen a hare, but no it was a so called beater/dog handler blowing his whislte  but he had his do on his lead, so was just doing it to f**k me of, she then f****d about coming back, when she did she wouldnt come close to me, so it was a mixed day but i was well pissed with the beater thinking it was funny confusing a young dog and ending the day on a low, :censored:

your dog is far two young to be in the beaters line , your early success dummies sit stay should be worked on

don't be in a hurry to take her beating , all your early success can be ruined , you wont be the first to enter a dog to early

and wont be the last , you need to go back to basics , sit and stay stop on the whistle , you blow that whistle your dog needs to know you will be at her straight away to correct her , simple retrieves and stop her on the way out if she don't stop get out to her and take her back to the place were you blew the whistle , do not take her beating you will have years of regret , put the work in and you will have years of pleasure , there are some excellent DVDs available , be patient
