New Permission

Hi Guys

 

I've just picked up three more pieces of permission one 200 acres (50 Fallow) and 450 acres (10 Fallow) and 650 acres (12 Fallow)

 

Question is how many deer could i take a year from the numbers above maintaining stable numbers? Maybe a stupid question to some!

Very brave statement in the first place mate .Deer counting ,accurate deer counting takes years of being on the same ground.A count on any one day is just that ,a one day count. If your there to reduce the numbers then take a good percentage of does this season .If they are passing through then dont hammer them as they will pass through quicker .

Thanks for that mate, maybe i should have made myself clear, the numbers stated was by the farmer not by me. I don't want to really effect the overall numbers, could i for example take 5 from the herd of 50 and realistically expect there to be 50+ next year?

I would cull more than 5 .If theres 50 I would say the greater percentage will be does and therefore replenishing your stock no problem.

It might not be the same but it takes me a full year to guesstimate the deer on the ground and even then it is what i said an educated guess. I have a bit of ground that has about 12 roe on it and i take 2 Bucks off it and one doe. One of the bucks will not count as it will be a mover in the rut.If i move up to one more then the number of deer will remain the same and i would like the number to imporve.

So 1/4 IF YOU WANT YOUR BASE STOCK TO INCREASE SLIGHLTY 1/3 IF YOU WANT IT TO REMAIN THE SAME AND 1/2 IF YOU WANT TO GET THE NUMBERS DOWN.
