Phil Lloyd 10,738
I dont think he has wriiten a single book.........an occasional chapter may be his but most of the books are full of other peoples dogs, experiances and knowledge.... :11: His first book is all about his own eperiences. I grant you the second one is an amalgamation of other peoples tales with his own, but its still bloody good reading, and photos, and miles better than Plummer I ain't read a hunting book in a long time,.maybe I should... I remember 'proof reading' a few of Plummer's manuscripts years ago.. He used to write in a strange type of script,.almost italics, and it was extremely difficult to read his words. The photography today is streets ahead of the early times. With modern digital cameras it would seem to be far easier to obtain decent image's , (and the fact that you don't have to take the photos to be developed must also help More books the better I've always thought. Its obvious that young lads want to read em. Personally,.I think anyone who bites the bullet and risks their hard earned vonger on a book writing project is to be applauded,...From what folk tell me,..(the actual book sellers and distributors),..there is not a lot of financial reward ,.unless your a best selling author of course, and however genuine and realistic your words are, jealous ridicule and unjust criticism from troubled souls is fairly certain to follow,.sooner or later.. I think writing books is a very personal thing,..you have to have a reason for doing it.... All the best to ALL crosses,...regards,...CHALKWARREN... Guest Nov
EGAY :11: :11: As for JDs book being like Plummers I have to disagree with you there mate. The quality of photography is miles better for starters, theres pics of real dogs doing real stuff not just a few Hancock mutts jumping a gate or a pic of the great man himself in his tweedy jumper and slip ons As far as the writing goes I reckon there about as far apart as night from day. JDs books are down to earth, honest and easy reading whereas plummers are intellectual prophetic ramblings for people who think "coup de grace" sounds coooooool Absolutley bang on, I've read two Plummer books and I found the same thing you mention. As for the Darcy books, I found them very good reads and I wish I bought a few copies of them, being as the're collectables now. Didn't one on ebay sell for over fifty quid recently? Guest grubygrafter
collectable feck i just gave two away for a raffle prize. i enjoyed reading them both and the pics are exellent passed a few summer hours lots of folk would write books but not many do.... i did find similarities in shaggy's and plummers books. but then they are about the same things. nighttimenellie 4
If you dont like them fair dos, but you dont have to belittle the lads efforts, at least hes done a bit compared to other writters, compairing his books to BPs is a bit below the belt. One went for fifty notes?, there is nowt as strange as folk lol, why not put fifty quids worth of petrol in the car and go and get your own memories instead of buying someone elses. phil wright 2
i found darcys books quite good. these days id prefer to watch a dvd of ratting and rabbiting than read about someones day out.but putting things like digging, deer and fox hunting onto dvd maybe isnt such a good idea. one things for certain if a picture paints a thousand words video footage says it all.i can remember when i first got interested in hunting and i read all the books to try and learn something.books were helpful but watching videos like the "ratcatchers" and "coney catcher" showed exactly how to go on. Simoman 110
Is the ratcatchers the geordie film? I've got that somewhere, some good footyage including Patterdales and a Bedlington. Although it has one of the worst voice overs, the bloke sounds like hes on anti-depresents Quote Link to post

phil wright 2
its the same lad who did the lurchermaia vids.ive always rated ratcatchers as the best ratting vid made so far.purely because whilst theres less rats than on others you get to see good clear catches.one dog-one rat action. the clip where the rat and ferret are fighting before miner picks it off is pure class.i heard the tri coloured plummer died working to ground.maybe someone can confirm what happened to him. i tried to find out when myself and its breeder curtis price wanted to know if it made a worker.if it had we may have asked to use it on my bitch. i gave my copy to a farmer, ill have to get it back :11: Quote Link to post
