looking back over the years when a was a bit younger ,i have been invited out with lads with working terriers and when the days been over i have sadly realized that there talked about proven terriers arnt realy working ,and when a showed them my old dog working they realized like it or not that there dogs wernt working at all ,proven is a easy word to throw around but a think a lot who lets say think there dogs working are best put kidding them selves, but be fair unless they see a true worker doing is job they might never no there terriers arnt proven ;) !!

Age has nothing to do with being proven...some dogs just dont get the work others do,a terrier used by a hunt will probably be a proven dog way before a weekend warriors dog
Personally i have never found hunt terriers game(In Ireland)They like yappy dogs that will bolt not kill.I once gave them a pup on the understanding he came back if not suited.A year later he was back to hard not suited. We used him for years after.

Over the last year or 2 I have realised an awful lot of the local lads that have terriers and i thought were the bee's knees and there dogs were the mutts nuts don't actually do as much as all the lads ive had the pleasure of going out with on here....standards are so different it's unbelievable. The dogs local that have a dozen digs a season are legends, more than proven in the owners and friends eyes. These dogs are being bred off and the offspring are being bred off, alot of the serious lads wouldnt even entertain the dogs.

As someone said, a dog out with a good pack of hounds will see a hell of a lot more than the weekend warriors dogs. Standards are going to be so much different between a weekend warriors 'proven' dog and a man who has thousands upon thousands of acres of good digging permission who has the good fortune to be out 2 or 3 times a week working his dog. To both men, if their dog does the business each time they are entered, consistently for 2 or 3 seasons then they will say they are 'proven working dogs'. Numbers could and will be vastly different though but it's not a numbers game in my eyes, it's how the dog works in different situations / earths / terrain ona regular basis which would say to me whether it was proven or not.

Its a big world and those that say less are more often than not the ones that do a hell of a lot more

i am with liam on this nombers dont impress me ,bolting type terriers we massive nombers dont mean you have a great proven dog on your hands, special proven dogs are about but its not the nombers game that makes a proven dog,a lot of these bolt type terriers can be shouted out ,a would say you would be a long time triyin shout a proper dog out from his work ,quality far beats nombers !!
