dws1410 8 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 spoke to a good few people that have bought dogs from down south and when come to scotland cock ar fences cant jump or wont jump alot easyer in pup training if you ask me in scotland alot of tight parks so got to get them jumping here and break to live stock as every where just my opinion guys dont tak it the wrong way what do youse think english dogs dont jump i bet half your country men are wondering what your going to say next to embarras them. you read my mind Quote Link to post

fieldfare 1 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 always teach them to jump all part of their education its not all big fields and fens alot of my permission small fields plenty of hedges and wire as i found out this morning dog laid up now got caught on double stranded so do most of them jump or just stop at fences and let what they chase get away or do they run for the nearest opening to get through or just run up and down going mentle Scottish, Welsh, English, Irish or Pakistani dogs or any other ethnic dog can jump, depends how good at training the handler/owner is surely ? Are they all coursing dogs?I know a lad that used to take CN's dogs out and he didnt get them jumping as they had no need on the land they ran alot of these dogs steve,run on the fens,if they have to jump its ditches mate not many obsticles on the fens,different land where we run our dogs they need to jump and stock break,,,no offence english lads because i was down 1 day with a good coursing lad,,got out the car they were a wooden fence easy 5 n foot high way ditch on other side, the lad walked back to middle of road walked to the fence gave it the call and up and over without a problem,,me personaly would not have let my dog jump that way big ditch on other side so there you go steve..seen it with my own eyes mate. It just depends on what kind of land you run your dogs on Quote Link to post
merle24 61 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 Jumpers are made not bred,,doesnt matter what lines its off, if it aint been brought on correct it will not jump,,easier to teach as a pup than a adult dog. I put a fence inside and across the dogs run as pups, and i put the food and drink at the otherside, if they want it they will have to get over it somehow, first they climb over it , then as the grow they jump over, at which point i hire the fence, and repeat untill i reach a good height. They naturally become used to jumping, then when in the feild it is nothing strange to them. Quote Link to post
