JohnGalway 1,043
A couple of evenings ago myself and my mate John were out about an hour before dark to knock off some longer range bunnies. Nabbed one with the .223 at 280 yards, not a mark ever on him, you would not know he'd been shot until opened up. Couple of people walking dogs who shouldn't have been there disturbed the rabbits then so we had a long wait for anything to show at the distance we wanted. Eventually another came out and we ranged him at 303 yards. The wind had picked up a little and between settling with the rifle and getting the drop correct I under compensated for the wind, missing no more than an inch to his left, could see where the Vmax dug up the ground. Now I've been trying to get John to use my .223 for a while. For some reason he never wants to, he's been shooting sbs 12ga and .22lr for years. To my surprise he wanted a go that evening. Trouble was the light was fading, so we found a nice handy bunny sitting on top of a burrow at 105 yards. Had to maneuver the rifle to shoot through the bars of a gate. I stood behind John watching bunny with my binos. Off went the safety and he sent the Vmax towards bugs. It's hard to describe what I saw happen. The best way of telling it is if that bunny was sitting on a landmine and decided to move. He literally exploded Bits of bugs four and five yards from where he was sat. Never seen them do that before, certainly nothing wrong with the expansion on those Vmax bullets. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
This is the best I can remember, hit it with a .223 Ballistic Tip back in May, I seem to recall it was about 160-180 yards, this was all that was left! Just like you we watched the explosion! Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
ready cut up for the pot......... Snap. Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
Shredded rabbit Snap I saw parts of him cartwheel through the air, certainly no suffering there. I don't think John had actually realised what the calibre could do before then, even though he's seen plenty of foxes shot with it. Kept hearing "Jesus Christ" as we walked over to survey the scene. Mr_Logic 5
PMSL! Vmax has that effect. Picture if you will, a rabbit at 40 or less yards with a 243 70 grain Nosler ballistic tip. Not much left to scoop into the hedge. Maybe it's wrong of me but I always laugh when I see stuff like that. Quote Link to post
