i kept a saluki croos?

Recommended Posts

As many of you know im a big fan of the collie/cross lurcher and can generally be found to be "singing their praises". Infact because of this it once had a respected Hunter even refering to me as "Collie Boy" during many of our Heated debates :D .

What he didn,t know, is that in the past i have infact had the experience with other crosses beside my favourite Collie types and this included the saluki cross.

I was fortunate to have the pleasure of seeing one of these at the weekend while visiting family members who i dont get to see that often. I gave them this Bitch many years ago after they lost there Dog at the time to a form of canine leukemia. The Dog they lost was a Lurcher that i had infact bred myself and had given them as a Puppy.

Theyd always admired the Bitch "Grace" and seeing how upset they were at looseing there other Dog,and also being the Guy that i am  i said they could have the Bitch. I knew it would have a good home and be well cared for, and this to me meant more than the fact that it would not be worked.

Anyway the bitch is now in her 11th year and going strong. I would say she was one of the best looking dogs i had the pleasure of owning when in her prime.

Anyway heres a couple of pics i took...

LAMPS, now that is more like a saluki cross, like you i,ve had my share off flack regarding this cross, i,ve said time and time again ,that the best lurcher i have owned , had a good degree of saluki blood in her, now i,ve mislaid my photo album, there are not a lot off photo,s in it, as my time i,m glad to say ,was mainly poaching, in my day permission was unheard of, so a camara was definitly a NO NO, to carry around with you, i once purchased a lurcher pup, many years back at chatsworth, the mother was a saluki greyhound x the sire a salukxgreyhound x saluki whippet, the chap had pictures of the catches the parents had made, i went on to win chatsworth obediance , and the british obediance, champioship with this dog, he always retrieved live to hand, rabbit hare and feather, infact he was a good alrounder, fox and so on, now he had plenty of stamina ,but i burnt him out lamping ,i just thought he would run for ever, thats a mistake i regret to this day, i was once offered a large sum of money for this dog, and thats without the dog catching anything, on the day in queastion, its just the exercise i did with him ,that gave this stranger a shock, if i had run him that day ,he would have bettered this mans dog anyway, and my mate who had a good dog , knew this , has a couple of years previous, my dog had put his dog to shame in a private comp one night, so like you perhaps some lurcher lads think we just breath collie crosses, infact the young dog i have now , is the first collie x greyhound i,ve ever owned.
