Coatesy900 0
I've heard they bolt better at night, but what good is that if you cant see a rabbit hit the net haha? Might be worth looking into though. I suppose if you eat a lot of carrots Link to post
pencoed hunter 7
Iv ferreted at night bolted quite afew that was using the long net though. It would probably be hard purse netting them all and finding all the holes in the night Link to post

comanche 2,940
hi boys , just to clear things up can you ferret at night.. as pepol say ..i think its bolock .. what do you think Well if the rabbits are in the holes and you can find all the holes in the dark of course it will work . Trouble is ,rabbits tend to be away from home at night and those that are at home might have rushed back to their burrows on your approach and might not be too keen on bolting . What about bolting rabbits to the lamp ...Just a thought Oh and what about finding or even worse digging to your ferret . All seems like hard going to me ! Quixote 9
Ferreting at night? Never heard such bollocks! Why do you think pubs were invented? Link to post
TOMO 26,038
DONT COMMENT ON THINGS YOU HAVENT DONE ferreting at night was far more common years ago, in fact i havent done it for about 15 year............. but i did do a hel of alot of it in the past. when the moon was up , and we wernt lamping, the ferrets were out. we did all the big parkland on estates, or anywhere that daytime ferreting was to hot also did it at night next to some power stations where there was light pollution . a good idea to walk your rabbits to ground first , and to have a torch , for when you get a dig. give it a go gents, that place you always fancied , with open warrens but could never get permision for Link to post

TOMO 26,038
SON HOW OLD YOU THINK I AM. re read the post fella , i told you what we used to do, and im not the only one, it was a widly used practice in the old days. in fact the warrener filmed a bit of it on one of his old films, im not particualy a fan of his, but it is there on film not only did the ferrets work at night, but being on parkland, other tasty criters would often walk past , and the lurcher could do her job without the lamp always a bonus Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
We used to do our local schools when we were kids, back in the days when every miner had whippit or greyhounds to run on at the miners welfare grounds, if you heard a rustle, torch on, if a bunny hit the long net torch on, we looked like a team of fireflies when everyone chugged on their fags Link to post
hiluxmk3 1
hi boys , just to clear things up can you ferret at night.. as pepol say ..i think its bolock .. what do you think Have done so many years ago, on full moon nights in the winter when there was a fresh covering of snow, always bagged more at night than during the day. But before we started we would walk a hedge row with burrows in it and look for the holes that were being used as the tracks were easily seen, we would stuff an old potato sack down the holes that were being used, and then walk up the side of the field and chase the rabbitts back to the hedge, they would go straight down the hole and get stopped by the sack the rabbit would sit tight, easy to come and pull them from the hole.
