Here's my pup, only 5 1/2 mths old so obviously haven't tried her out yet. There's an old boy in my village swears by deerhound x's - reckons his best one's have been 3/4 greyhound 1/4 deerhound (not the sorta guy to keep it if it don't work). He used to used them on hare and deer regularly - before the ban, er... obviously

I agree with Mik, save the bitchy comments for Smoochers where they belong :p

If the lad wants to ask questions theres no harm in that is there? a curious mind aint no bad thing :D

A very good mate of mine :friends: used to run 3/4 greyhound 1/4 crosses, I saw 3 of his dogs run, all 3/4 crosses bred from Andy Barons dogs and I can honestly say they were excellent dogs, fast enough to knock hares down on a regular basis, great takers of roe and fox wasnt a problem to them either. They did suffer a lot of foot problems though, and seemed to knock up toes quite a bit.

I have 2 of them on video and they were great dogs for killing all game, the older dog I wished I had videod more cos she was a great dog, very fast and keen and didnt know the meaning of the word quit, even though she was often run hard. :good:

Hi Lurcherlad,

Ive bred only first crosses, but I have witnessed some good three quarter breds working, and as you can see from other replys, they are doing the business. I always found the first crossers to be better, but thats only my findings, the three quarter breds are usually very fast, but so are any three quarter bred, thats what you would expect with so much greyhound in them, but will they last the pace of a hard days coursing or nights lamping? Im sure some will, but some I have seen threw so close to the greyhound they were virtually indistinquishible. I remember judging at AYRE a few years ago, and on the mornings time trials a three quarter bred d/g got one of the fastest times of the morning, in front of greyhounds...There is an old saying,"when in doubt, put back to the greyhound" To me, I have never been in doubt with the first cross d/g as an all rounder, but they dont make the best all rounders. If I had one now, the last thing I would put it back to would be a greyhound. A good lurcher x lurcher, a Bedlington x greyhound, collie x greyhound, saluki x greyhound all of these would produce usefull pups, depending what you wanted them for...

Good hunting :good:
