Small allrounder

Recommended Posts

Had my heart set on a beddy whippet but went out lamping with a friend for the first time last night and loved it. Still need a relatively small dog, im thinking around 21/22". The dog will be mainly used for ferreting and lamping rabbits but would like something that could retrieve bigger stuff on occasions. Would a dog of this size be ok on the lamp and what cross would you suggest?

Beddie whippet fine, collie/whippet, kelpie/whippet, ACD/Whippet, all good for ferreting, or a version of any with whippet/greyhound in will keep size down, its whats in the heart that counts , only rabbits and rats legal, hares fox etc flushed to guns and retrieved ok, if you had wanted to work larger quarry frequently pre ban then a bigger cross made it look easier, but nowt wrong with a good little un.

Was wondering whether is was worth considerin a beddy/GH/Whippet or just sticking to the beddy whippet? what would the Gh add?

if your going for a dog of this breading ,try and get the mother to be the beddy ,and make sure both parents are true workers ,it will make all the difference . dont worry about how big the game is you are intending to have a go at ,,they just have a little problem retreaving if it is 2 or 6 times their weight ,but they will have a go if you work them right .

Cheers for the help, What difference does it make the mother being the beddy and is it better to get a first cross or beddy whippet x beddy whippet.
