Recommended Posts

Right just got a new hob and jil , got them from a right shit hole , the jil didnt look 100% healthy but thought if i took her back got some decent food and a good bit of care they would be ok but i think she is on her way out looked in on her today she is up and about but noticed she cant chew the dry food and i can only describe it as looking like snot coming from her mouth and it smells , any ideas as what it could be ??? secondly the hob is riddled with ticks really small some of them are, ive just took about 10 off him now with tweezers but he was starting to get pissy as my finger found out, but there is too many to try and get out with tweezers ide be there all day behind his ears are worse they are smaller than a match head , do i leave them till they get to a size for me to pull or is there some kind of dip i could use ???? They are both lovely natured ferrets , just a shame they ended up in the state they have , but hopfully ile get them sorted if i can .

these dont sound good mate.

keep them seperate so any infection does not spread between them.

get some flea powder and cover them, and any bedding in it,

if the jill is loosing weight could be a kind of flu, i would 1st check her mouth make sure she can close it properly and has nothing

wedged in her teeth or throat, this can happen if fed rabbits ect.

try her on an easily digestable food eg bread& milk then put her on proper meat, birds or rabbits.

i would do the same with the hob if he is down in condition 2

remove what ticks you can,

you could use tick and lice spray used on birds, cats ect to try to remove ticks

do NOT use spot on for dogs it will kill them.

HOPE ALL GOES WELL

SURGICAL SPIRITS WILL SORT THE TICKS OUT JUST PUT SOME ON A DRY CLOTH AND RUB OVER THE TICKS THEY SHOULD DROP OUT,BECAUSE TICKS BREATHE BREATHE THREW THERE ABDOMEN WHEN THEY DO KILL THEM,THE JILL SOUNDS LIKE SHE HAS AN ABCESS IN HER MOUTH SHE NEEDS TO SEE A VET FOR A COURSE OF ANTI-BIOTICS LIKE AMPICILLIN STRAIGHT AWAY IF SHE MAKES IT YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF GETTING SOME BABY FOOD IN JARS,IF YOU CAN,T AFFORD A VET JUST EXPLAIN TO HIM THAT YOU RESCUED THEM FROM A SHIT HOLE AND A F**KING SAD PERSON AND HE SHOULD HELP HE WILL NOT SEE AN ANIMAL SUFFER,BUT I WOULD TAKE HER STRAIGHT AWAY OK MATE HOPE THIS HELPS

right ive just had a look in her mouth and what i thought was a bit of food was her tongue , it looks like it has been split in half and some of it missing , and the rest on the one side has gone rotten , so i think i will have her put to sleep, i personally dont think it is fair on her now seeing the state her mouth is in. I dred to think what state the other ferrets were in .

You have two options here, either go round with a gang or report. Either way is too good for the Tw@t. People like that should be treated the same as they treat their animals.

Very sad to hear about animals in that state. Before you get the jill PTS just, have a look in her mouth again and check she has not got any bone stuck in the back of her jaws, stopping her mouth from closing. I know on quite a few occasions, some of mine get that problem and only pressing it away from the teeth will release it.

insecticidal shampoo for the ticks and separate them incase its some kind of infection, get her down the vets and if she is struggling to eat dry food check that her teeth have not been clipped like some of the b*****ds do down here and add some garlic to the food nice coat and helps keep ticks away

the best option for removal of the ticks is frontline,( available as a pump action bottle) simply saturate a cotton bud and gently wipe over the ticks. this process may need repeating twice. the ferret has to have vetenery attention, it may simply require a course of baytril (general antibiotic) or something similar to give her the boost she so obviousley needs. its important to check the ferrets, there parents, living accomadation ect..... if your doubtfull about a ferrets health and condition then dont take it home. good luck, hope everything works out, atb.
