harrygrey382 1
My girlfriend has offered to get me a scope for christmas  So I'm trying to pinpoint a <£200 scope. I've ruled a few out, and like a few. My current rifle is s Winchester 9422M 22WMR. These mostly comprise of: Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 £189 + free pair of binos Leupold VX-I 3-9x40 £199 Varius MTC offerings below 200 Can anyone compare these scopes, or top of the rangfe nikko sterlings, simmons or hawkes? I mainly shoot rabbits, the odd fox and squirrels. Mostly in daylight but lamping may come. Or can anyone recommend scopes in this price range I haven't mentioned? Thanks for any input Harry Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Burris. I have a Fullfield II 3-9x50 ballistic plex on my Hornet, it's great. Leupold VX-I is crappy in all respects, and personally I don't rate MTC as being much better than bearable. Quote Link to post
harrygrey382 1
Thanks guys - glad you said that as I was coming to that conclusion too. Just one more though, I've been looking at the Nikon Buckmaster (3-9x40) and reviews are favourable, putting it in the same class as the fullfield. Can anyone comment on a Buckmaster? Mr_Logic 5
I've not had a Buckmaster, so can't really comment, but personally I'd stick with Burris, I really like the build quality and optics of mine. Quote Link to post

Nikon make some great scopes and I think they are a little underated in the UK, very popular in the US apparently, nevertheless... What he said above! Quote Link to post
jordang 0
My HMR is fitted with a 6-18 buckmaster, for the money they are very hard to beat; very clear, not too fussy with eye relief and good in low light especially considering its a 40mm obj. I have schmidts on my other rifles and unless i stumble across a bargain of this quality I wont be changing it. Quote Link to post
harrygrey382 1
ok so it's evening out... People that compare the two often put them on a par, and as the Nikon is £150, I'm not so sure now. Also, the local dealer is now recommending Optimate scopes - he says they're made in Japan and very good quality even though little know. Comfortably under £200 but no fixed prices yet. Anyone know these? Not much on them I can find, so might still stick with the Burris. Apparently they're philipino and the Nikon might be chinese? Quote Link to post
harrygrey382 1
oh yeah I forgot he said he could get pentax scopes too. Says they are made in USA and should be sub £200... Anyone know them? Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Trouble with scopes, as with so many things in life, you have such a choice...and most will tell you what they have is the best (human nature) and most dealers will try and sell you what they have! As you are finding your head is going in all directions now, you should be able to get a perfectly edequate scope for £200, or perhaps quite a good second hand one, take the plunge and get what feels right to you! I think as I can't find much on optimate, and the Buckmaster may well be chinese, I reckon I'll plump for the Burris. Although I am keeping an eye on Macleod's but there's nothing there right now for me Quote Link to post
