AAS410K .177 lamping

Hi every one

After going over to a new paddock on Sunday, and doing a bit of a recky.

We only seen a few out and decided to come back another time and give the lamping a go. As this paddock is not that big, so not much room for stalking. And absolutely no cover at all.

So of we set @ 6:30pm this evening and got there about 7:00pm, as we got to the paddock fence, I had a quick flick with the cluson lite to see if any were out. And there were 5 out, so I opened the gate for chaz to go through in the hilux and we parked up in the middle of the paddock as it was a cloudy evening.

Once we got settled and having a chat putting the world to rights! As you do, a half hour had passed. And I had a quick flick of the lamp, and spotted a bunny grazing about 30yds away. So let chaz know I had a shot on! Up came the AAS410K .177 turned on the illuminated cross hairs and THWACK! Up it went down it came dead, but when I went to pick it up I noticed that the shot was low, just under the eye but all the same killed it out right.

The next 2 that came in to are cross hairs were missed by me and chaz. Have to get used to this lamping again, much prefer my night vision scope. Any way not much happened for an hour, well apart from seeing 2 shooting stars, and listening to an owl having an evening sing, and more chatting. And I got out of the truck and went for a walk a round, and spotted 2 about 50yds away. So slowly slowly step by step “or should I say tiptoeâ€

And trying to judge the distance in the dark takes some doing, so me tinks! It’s about 30yds after stalking towards it, down on one knee cross hairs locked on target THWACK! Number 2 in the bag, it can join its mate!

So back to the truck I went, bunny in hand. No luck for chaz as yet, sat in there for another hour and nothing apart from another miss from chaz, he does prefer day shooting better as I tink we all! Do. So we gave it another 20 minutes and still nothing, as chaz was putting his rifle away I said I would go and meet him at the gate. While I was walking to the gate, my lamp spotted a red jewel so another few steps, down on the knee I go. Got my eye up to the scope and I couldn’t find it, the little feck was behind a gate post I could just make it out THWING! Shit hit the post and the little feck ran, I caught up with it as it stopped behind a water troff.so up I creeped to it I got within 25yds standing shot THWACK!! Up it goes and smacks its head on the troff on the way down lol.so back to the truck chaz had already gutted the 2 we had, so only this one to do then we were on are way home. But really enjoyed it, glad to get out and just be a part of it. Sorry about quality of pic, taken from me phone

And here is a group pic

Great read Davy and well done on the stalking mate :clapper:

I agree mate range finding at night is really hard to do. Have you tried using a laser at night mate? I swear by them and find them to be deadly accurate when range finding.

Nice write up Davy, I presume this is your new permission?

Sounds like you both had a good time, Charlie even gutted them for you!! Didn't you have your range finder with you this time, I presume you a can use a range finder at night, just as long as you can see what your looking at??!?!

hi andyz

you can use it,but you have to have the lamp on for a while to range it ,as the reading is not illuminated.and when doing that the bunnys tend to leg it,so thats a :nono: i tink its me i dont do enough lamping and also its early days yet,so just this season nerves me tinks
