when the ban was brought into scotland and england does the ban count in north and south off ireland l know badgers cant b touched but foxs and hares????

Why would an English or Scottish ban effect Ireland? In the North or the Republic?

Separate countries, separate laws.

right there is no law saying you can't hunt hares with lurcher in the south of ireland, there is a season to shoot them ,and there is a season for courseing hares in way of courseing clubs, and you need a license to trap a wild hare to use for courseing meetings,as for the north of ireland i am not sure what the law is so i won't comment on it,as for fox, no law ypu cn hunt/ kill a fox with a lurcher north and south,

My understanding:

The bill banning the hunting of the indiginous Irish Hare was brought in by The Environment Minister last year or the year before. This was due to the result of a survey stating that the native species was in danger of a collapse in numbers.

The ban did not cover the brown hare as only the native Irish hare was mentioned. I think this was an unintentional ommision in the bill.

I don't believe anyone, as yet, has been charged with hunting hares here. The law is so vague and scratchy that I don't believe the authorities even know what it means.

I can't tell the difference at any distance between a brown hare and an Irish hare, and my dogs certainly can't. So I would say that the intention is never there to hunt the Irish.

Now that is only my take and if I ended up in court over it, the magistrate might have a different take.

I also would hate to think that I was responsible for taking the last Irish hare, although browns are definately everywhere over here. Getting close, legally, is a different matter.

from the 31/3/03 there was a ban on hunting hares in the north of Ireland inculding netting hares a total protection on them, but no prottection on the european brown just the native irish hare, but in the south of Ireland the wildlife rangers are on the prowl looking for illeagal coarsing cause you need a game permit and writen permission from the farmer stating why he wants you to hunt hares on his land, the coarsing clubs were lucky to get there permits this year to net the hares and when they did they got them late....
