what sort of tray have you got, isnt a corner one is it.. although my ferrets use em fine alot of people

say their ferrets wont use the corner ones. Ferrets like to back up into the corner so they like

to get all their body in the tray, so get a large cat tray lol. Put the tray in their favourite corner and fasten it down, if they

go anywhere else put food bowls there, treats, toys etc to block it off.. Place some poo and wee in the tray and hope they go init :)

I use trays as i find it easier than cleaning the hutch out everyday and also makes the hutch's last longer as it

saves em from absorbing all the pee.

i tried the litter tray too and gave up.

they would use it once or twice but it soon became too dirty for them and they shit where they wanted again!

the reply about them wanting to get right in seemed to ring true.blocking the other corners with tubes helped too.

good luck.

Hi all,

Seems a few have tried kitty litter trays with crap results.... :wallbash:

Ok, try this ....

First get some kitty litter, the crystals are good.

DON'T USE ANY CLAY TYPES.... THERE NOT GOOD

Add around 1 to 2cm worth of litter.

They'll use it, don't worry, the smell of the litter is designed to make cats etc empty their bowels.

The manufacturers spends heaps refining these products so they sell well,

think about that for a moment

They like to scratch it and then will back up into the corner.

Ok, it may take a day or two, but please persevere as it will make cleaning so much easier.

Once there using it, its a good idea to have a second litter tray.

Then when you need to clean out the one in cage you just add some litter to the spare tray,

pop it in, then clean out the messy one....

Easy..& very quick...

You'll get a week or so out of a tray of litter..

You'll definately notice the decrease in urine smell also.

Excellent if you have them in smaller areas or inside etc.

Ive used kitty litter a swhile now & wonder why i never used it years

back when we first had ferrets, would have made life so much easier looking back.

For me its just an easy way of dealing with a shitty problem :clapper:

Cheers,

Shaun
