timmy k 590
prevention is better than cure i think, some dogs use the right amount of force for each quarry, most dont, but most dogs start off soft mouthed ive noticed, if your arsed about a dog bringing back a rabbit live to hand or in one peice keep them on rabbits only. putting them on rats and other biting quarry just risks the hard mouth and so does running them to hard to soon. tiptopdan 1
1 of my m8s told me put loads of keys in a sock and get the dog 2 retreve it that stops them being hard mouthed dunno if it workes as i have never tryed it. might be worth a shot. pm me if u try it and let me know if it workes will be very intrested 2 c the out cum. i have never needed 2 try it as my dogs are all ready soft mouthed. all so hurd of barbed wire in a sock but wouldent like 2 try that might put ya dog off retreving all 2 gether and end up with a big vet bill and a lame dog lol. thanks dan Quote Link to post
Guest dances
heard a rock in a dummy, its just so it hurts to be hard mouthed Quote Link to post

Agreed on the prevention ...I'd rather work with a gun shy dog than one with hard mouth ;' both are hard to break but easy to prevent. Quote Link to post
mandog 37
Strap 2 washing up brushes together the type you can scrub a floor with. Quote Link to post
blacktabs 3
Some dogs are hard on their first catch but as the night goes on and they catch more they get less mouthy with them. One old boy i know wraps barb wire round a bottle then puts the rabbit skin over it a bit extreme but he swears by it atb Quote Link to post
