VERY GUD DOGS BUT TOO KEEN FOR WHAT THEY ARE, THEY ARE ALWAYS GETTING SMASHED UP VERY FAST DOGS AS WELL, THE WHITE ONE ON THE PIC I USED TO DO FERRETING,FOXES,HARES AND RABBIT THE BRINDLED ONE WOULD DO IT BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE WHITE ONE, THE WHITE ONE WOULD WORK LIKE A SPRINGER IN THE DAY BUT GOOD ON LAMP AT NIGHT AND THIS IS AFTER WHEN SHE BROKE HER BACK LEG WHEN A YEAR OLD. :yahoo:

i had 3\4 whippet 1\4 greyhound bitch would catch rabbits and hares (before the ban) day and night. only problem was she cut easy she was in the vets at least 1 or 2 times a month . she had an excellent noise would hunt and bush all day , very fast and not scared to jump anything. in my eyes a good little dog for moochin :rocker:

if i was bang at the ferreting id definately consider one.

but how does this cross fair as a proper lamping dog alot more running involved lamping i think...

whats the stamina like on the dogs you lads had?

i started my lamping career with a whippet/grey. when i started my dad had packed it in along time ago and just left me to it. i remeber doing some really stupid runs with her and sending her down the beam again before she had time to recover. i look back on it now and think 'i should have had somebody warm my ear for being so daft'. but anywho, the dogs i have now wouldnt have stuck the pace i set for her, she was a real tryer!! took absolutely anything i aimed her at and done it well. she really did feel the cold on a frosty night.... unfortunatley she died of parvo. i have two pups from her, the girlfriend has one when she was bred to an alsation/grey and i have the other that was a mishap when the bull shoved the kennel to one side and got at her in the pen  .

One of my first dogs was also a first cross whippet x greyhound, and as every one has said they spend most of the time knocked up. I remember one time my bitch opened up her leg ( like a zip undoing ) from the top to nearly the bottom of her leg as she went under some wire , and she was only walking at the time. If the weather was bad you may as well have stayed at home, as she would be a shivering wreck. But she was fast, had a very good mouth would have a go at most things when her blood was up, even tho she spent the next few days looking like she was going to die :11: after a few bites that most dogs wouldn't have taken any notice of .

:11: its their fine skin than lets them down evrytime. u get a crackin lurcher if you cross them to a 1/2 bred grey/collie or grey/bull.. i crossed my bitch twice to my mates alsation/grey there was a few whippets in the two litters but the others grew to 25" at the shoulder. they were every bit as fast as my bitch but they had a thicker coat like their dad.

One of my mates has one, he is one very fast dog, he takes anything thrown at him, but he lacks stamina and his skin is very thin, tears like tissue. He'll do foxes but gets a beating when single handed. Hes 24'' ast. I think if he was crossed with a collie/grey or bull/grey the pups would be smashing. :D

have seen a few decent ones can give some great runs and always in a hurrey

to catch which looks great i think.

agree too that they rip easily .

remember one i had got a small cut on it rib cage a centemeter or so.

only to see it stretch to a couple of inches in front of my eyes

as the skin was so tight on him.

one thing i found with the croos is that they where both game and intelligent

which is half the battle in my eyes

all the best macker

i had one years ago a great little bitch stood 23@ts but what a game little dog,it would catch 20/25 rabbits for me 3/4 nights a week and run back to me with them as fast as it went after them,it would catch a odd day time hare but i never bothered them that much,it would catch and kill foxes single handedly but the bigger ones it would struggle with,if i did'nt work and could be assured i would get one like her i would have another tomorrow. my brother as two dogs out of the little bitch and are both handy dogs but not a patch on the bitch, but saying that they havent had the work she got :)

sounds about the same as the one i saw run HBG, the foxes seemed to be a stand up fight, but it had the heart of a lion and fired in every time.
