One other point don't use chicken wire they will chew through it in no time at all,

try to use a weld mesh type for ferret housing.

Regards FT

If my ferrets could crew through chicken wire I wouldnt be surprised if they also donned big red capes and flew around saving the world every night after I'd gone to bed.

Either we breed tougher ferrets down here mate, either that or you know jack shit about what ferrets are capable of!

Mine have chewed through chicken wire and other wire that is slightly thicker than chicken wire, weld mesh now and so far no break outs.

I've also known ferrets to chew through chicken wire. Once when my mate's escaped from a run he made out of it, and another time when a stray ferret chewed it's way into a mates rabbit enclosure, killed their pet rabbit, ate a bit of it, and made himself a bed in the corner! :D

So they can & do chew through chicken wire....

good tips from all :notworthy:

a good idea with as big as poss and of sturdy wire. make it so safe houdiny would get a sweat on and it should be ok for a ferret :clapper:

i had a rabbit cage in the house and came home to a raging ferret in the bedroom, from there she found a way behind the bath, the kitchen and everywhere else you would think a ferret would love to go!

great pets, great sport whether to net,gun or dog.

good luck getting them sorted.

I lost my first ferret after he chewed through the chicken wire on his box, too. Belting little silver hob he was, tame as a puppy. :( So it seems you're in the minority there mate. Galvanised weldmesh was the only thing I'd use from then on.

i also read somewhere that ferrets are allergic to zinc. and that chicken wire has zinc in it . ?

Galvanised mesh can get a white coating on it due to oxidisation, I've heard that it is best to allow this to happen before introducing ferrets to a run/court as it can be a poisonous process but mine have had no bother with the mesh on mine.

You may as well leave the cage door open if your going to use chicken wire, its far to easy for them to pull at it & make a gap big enough to escape

It can be cut with a pair of nail scissors , go weld mesh :D

if your going to use chicken wire get smal mesh and make sure its doubled up and pulled tite on a framw i use wel;d mesh , only cause i no were there an unlimted source from lol for rabit protection .chicken mesh is alritefor a short periob but youll wake up one day and theyll find away out and try to ESCAPE , IF YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE CHICKEN MESH FINE SMAL STUFF
