Wxm 1,638
do you not just salt it like a rabbit skin???
Yokel Matt 918
Probably not the best time of year to be curing a roe skin mate as they'll not be full winter pelage yet... may find a lot of hair on the floor at before you're finished
Attack Fell Terrier 864
This is something I am also interested in, can anyone post any advice up on curing pelts?
fieldfare 1
Rub Borax on the inside of the pelt, and leave for a couple of weeks for it to dry in.
steve109 43
OK HERE IS WHAT YOU............................................................................. ................................................................................. ......................... I would like to stress that no matter what you will do with your hide, proper fleshing and salting are the two first steps that can never be skipped or cut short. One should keep in mind that salt will not penetrate fat and meat - so if you fail to flesh and remove ALL fat and meat before salting your hide, those areas will not be cured. You will end up with the same effect as the hide on a roadkilled animal as it rots - the hair will fall out. The main purpose of using salt is to pull the moisture holding bacteria from the skin. Keeping this in mind, the safest way to go to prevent slipping problems down the road with your own tanning is to salt your hides twice (skin to skin on an incline to drain) and then open them up to air dry to at least % de-hydrated. This is how you kill and stop bacteria growth. Your tanning chemicals will not cure the hide or stop the bacteria!!
