zini 1,939
Hi guys, Today I and Festa met up at 1330 hrs at my permission. We intended on having an afternoon of squizzer and feral pigeon shooting and looking at my new permission. First thing was to check zero our combos and ensure that we were smashing bulls at 30 metres. I had decided to try the new FX 16 grain .22 ammo as I have been advised by the gun smith to try them as they are quality ammo and were heavier than my normal Accupels. As it turned out for some strange reason the zero of both pellets were the same and I had to make no adjustments with the first shot smashing the 10 spot at 30m. I then drove Festa the 3 min drive to look at my new permission. We spoke to the farmer and informed him that we were coming back later to shoot some ferals as they were not in his barn at that moment in time. We then said our good byes and went a walk around a new field that I have never been on. What a shock that was in broad day light we saw 10 bunnies in what must have been no more than a 200 metre of just a bit of the field. There were also an absolute tonne of rabbit sets that were being used and freshly dug. There were also piles of wet fresh bunny pooh every where. We then made a plan to save this gem of a field for when our shooting buddies, Reggaeman, Wuzzy and Marksman comes up to have some quality sport. From this field im not exaggerating in saying I think we are going to shoot 50 or more bunnies in a night as its that full and active. We then decided to go back to the old permission and ambush squizzers. We first checked my squizzer traps and found a big male caught cleanly by the neck in an Mk 4 Fenn. A good start I thought. I took its tail for my collection and threw the rest of the body for Charlie tonight. Next we drove to a wood which I new was full of squizzers. The first squizzer only took about 2 minutes to arrive. This squizzer was just too mobile though and wouldnt hold still long enough for a clinical shot so Festa didnt attempt to take it out. The flipping thing ran to the right hand side of our safe shooting arc and run up a tree. Just as it did this though a bunny popped out his set for some fresh air only to be filmed by me for the DVD and shot through the head by Festa. After that rabbit we waited and filmed and shot another 3 squizzers from the same ambush location. Gary shot and I filmed. Yet again Gary was on form with his AA ProSport smashing head shots right left and Chelsea. The poor things didn’t stand a chance. Last thing we did before we said our good byes was to go back to the new permission and shoot 3 ferals for the farmer. There were more but they flew out the barn after 3 of their mates had been dropped to the floor with a loud thump. The farmer was happy and so were we. We didnt take a photo of the ferals with the rest of the bag as we left the dead ferals on the farmers muck heap as instructed by him. All in all it was another good fun afternoon with a good bag of vermin. Hurry up lads and get back to North Yorkshire for some serious bunny bashing . Photo is Festa with his bag. Oh one thing i forgot to add so have had to edit this thread is that when packing a way our combos and after we had taken the photo a jackdaw landed on a wire fence at a good 40 plus metres. I couldnt resist a shot as it was safe to do so and got out the trusty R10. The first pellet i shot i watched it just sail over the Jacks head by a fraction of an inch. The second shot though which was between 1.5 and 1.75 mil dots hold over was perfect and i watched the FX smack it bang smack on the back of its head sending it tumbling off the fence to the ground without even a flinch. It was a very nice way to end the day and a shot ill always remember for years to come. I even think Festa was impressed LOL. Zini Edited October 21, 2009 by zini Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Thanks for all the kind comments again guys I can shoot on Saturday again Chris mate but i cant make it a massive all day one . If we met at the old permission at 1400 hrs that would give us plenty of time to kill loads of squizzers and corvids before it gets dark and then get set up on the new permission for a mamouth lamping session. I will then be able to lamp till 0200 hrs or 0300 hrs with you guys. Hows that sound mate? Phantom (Tony) the offer is there for you as well mate if you can get a lift up to North Yorkshire. I guarrentee you loads of bunnies and hard as rock squizzers. When me and Festa (Gary) walked to check my traps yesterday there were 3 or 4 in one little opening just sat on the ground eating tree nuts and i thought that i was doing well in keeping their numbers down. I and the lads including Gary's tally and my trapped one has put us at 38 squizzers in 4 weeks - ish. Regarding the shot Chris it was like your one off that light on the air field, stone dead before it hit the floor Si Edited October 22, 2009 by zini Quote Link to post
