PCP v Gas Strut

Recommended Posts

Looking to purchase an air rifle and looking through all the airgun magazines at the various deals available, its going to cost a pretty penny to get a decent set up with the PCP ar rifles and filling equipment. So i was looking at the possibility of getting a gas strut rifle such as the theoben evolution or fenman. Just wondered if anybody has had experience with these guns, what are your views and could anyone recommend a decent gas strut gun (at a decent price)?

I have a stealth its deadly accurate and verry verry quiet i also shoot a theoben rapid 12 and a logun sweet 16

By far the theoben is my favourit but if you're getting one make sure its the mk1 as the later models have plastic valves as apose to alluminium wich makes them harder to "tune" ;)

Gasrams still recoil, in a different way to a springer.

IMHO i would coose a HW90k if i was gettig a gasram powered gun.

the Theobens(well the gasrams) are let down by poor triggers.

The new HW90k comes wih a threaded barrel for a silencer, not like the older ones

iv'e got a hw90k i have had the barrel shortened by half and had a thread put on the barrel to take my logun silencer its a lot quieter than the stingray i had with the same silencer you could hear the spring slapping in the stingray and the gun was brand new im very happy with the 90 its bang on 12ftlb :D

Budget at least £100 for your filling equipment. Filling up a Rapid with a stirrup pump ain't fun so look at a bottle.

There's alot of kit on the market for that kinda money but don't confine yourself to just PCP and gas strut. A top end springer will do the job just as well.

As always new stuff will be warrantied and there is plenty of second hand stuff doing the rounds, although it varies in quality so beware. ;)
