gazzer 1
gaza this is sam your dogs sire thats the one glenn, glad i found you on here, many on here seem to think im some sort of idiot, ive only mentioned that id like my dog to sire a litter or two and im sat here with a tin hat already. I am not and will not just breed from dog for the sake of money,i think hes a great little dog.....when i say "hard worker",i mean he is keen, gets stuck in,full of graft and does not tire easily.......if someone tells me how i'll put some pics up here. I'm not picking a fight but you still haven't answered my question. " Keen, get's stuck in, full of graft"???? Fox? Mouse? ok glenn ill register now. my dog has only done ratting so far....and considering we have not really had any bumper days down here,a lot of scratching around for a handfull to 12 rats, hes shown a great willingness although did get a little preoccupied with the other dogs to start with but then he was young, still has a way to go yet but they all got to start somewhere.i am pleased soo far. We've been down this road many atime. No disrespect intended but "keen, get's stuck in, full of graft" have very different meanings on here. I've no doubt he will be all those when he does meet a worthy opponent. Don't get me wrong I love ratting, it's geat fun but not a great challenge. My lad in photo drew both these fox from an earth in a bank so don't think I'm anti Plummer because I was very happy with him. So much so I got another!!! Quote Link to post

steviemann 5
Are but would you now get another?????????? Simple answer no. I only speak of my limited experience of owning two. They as a breed were bred as ratters and not enough people IMO work them to fox enough for the breed to develope/evolve into true earth dogs. And that is what I want, a true earth dog. IMO some do make the grade BUT far TOO MANY are only pets or rabbiters. And it's these people who will, IMO hold back the breed from the title earth dog. But IF I wanted a ratting dog that would go to ground occassionaly, was good in the house, would pick up on the peg, retrieve all the fur and feather I'd shot, catch and kill small deer (PRE BAN) then I would have another. AMADORE 5
Well thats a shame its lads in your line or work Stevie that could show the world how good they really are. With 1000 registred in over 20 years half of wich are dead no doubt leaving 500. im sure there are some not so good ..and I know there are some superb earth dogs. But i doubt its the dogs as you say thats the problem its the marketing as an all rounder that hinders the title earth dog. 20 plus years ago many used them for earth work myseldf included but even back then the limits of finding earth work without risks of prosecution were hard. After answering the phone for 20 years most lads even today are amateur weekend hunters how many times can you garuntee earth work on the weekend.?..not many even if you find yourslef "off the footpath" But with a new breed they have to multi task as the amount of people wanting earth dogs nowadays is tiny...for the breed to survive soley as earth dogs is impossible. I think if my Charlie was still alive he would've improved the breeds reputation, I've no doubt about that. Especially as I'm now lucky enough to be out three to four times a week. As an allrounder you not find IMO a better breed. That pup looks strong, what a corker. Would've found it hard to turn that one down. But as they've got popular the price has risen the same as the Border prices did. Quote Link to post
