new air rifle choice?

Recommended Posts

Hello there ladies and gentlemen. I'm gingernut and a newbie to the THL. I'm going to be purchasing a new air rifle soon 12ft/lb. I was thinking on a new BSA ulta multi shot tactical, are these rifles any good? Are there any owners out there? I will be using it for vermin bashing (Mainly rabbits, tree rats, pigeon and corvids.)

Would appreciate your thoughts. Cheers Gingernut.

Try a hw100,i've had 1 for a year and i regularly shoot rabbits,rats,squirrels,woodies,magpies etc.

hi gingernut. welcome ;) have you actually shot a bsa ultra? just wondered if you were going by how the rifle looked as opposed to how you can shoot with it?

I own a bsa ultra single shot in 177 flavour which i DO love

I was thinking about getting an ultra multi shot some time ago myself but decided against it cos to me its more work on the shooter's part as opposed to other multi shot rifles :D

I would only consider getting rid of mine if a good offer ever came my way on a hw100 to be honest ;)

My advise would be to go to some gun shops and see what you feel comfortable with mate.

Regards

how many shots do you get from hw100?

90-100,they usually come with 2 14 shot mags, that are sturdy and simple to refill when out lamping etc,i own a rapid 7 too,but find the mags really awkward to reload when i'm lamping, and they're only 7 shot,12 shots are available but retail at around £50 and will wear out, where as the hw100 mags are solid metal, with a rubber o ring around the outside so last ages.

So fast come the replys!! Excellent. Firstly my neck of the woods is garbage for decent shops, I like the thought of a composite stock easier to maintain and I won't cry if I scratch it. Have a go!! theres no chance in Ayrshire. OK I'll start again what do you people think is a good pre charge for hunting? I know the German manufacturer are good, I've got a mint 22 year old HW35K. The HW100 is way out of my price range. What do you mean more work Reggaeman?

Regards Gingernut.

I paid £450 for my hw100,with a reasonable scope,bag,2 mags and hill stirrup pump, all under 12 months old,i used a hw80 for yrs before i got this gun,and i've never shot so much in my life since owning the hw100,and its pushing just under 12,where the 80 was doing 16, get saving mate you wont be disappointed.

Gotcha mate! single shot might be the answer then. I'm doing all my fact finding on the net, so youll have to excuse my ignorance - remember I'm sitting here with an HW35!! The reason I'm looking for pre charge is basically noise factor, I want something that is quiet and light.

I'm gonna plug the 100 again lol, whisper quiet, but some people find them heavy, after carrying the 80 for yrs it seems normal to me,there's nothing stopping you putting a shoulder strap on though.
